JBL JRX212 Overview

The JRX212 from JBL is a two-way 12" loudspeaker system. It is suitable for live sound and speech reinforcement applications, and can also be used for monitoring on stage. It features a 2.5" voice coil and a 1" compression driver, as well as a frequency range of 60 Hz to 20 kHz.

Its high-frequency driver is protected by a SonicGuard system, while the speaker's overall MDF construction allows for both durability and a suitable low-frequency response. With its non-resonant steel handles, the 43 lb speaker is easier to move around than if it had no handles at all. For connections, this loudspeaker sports 1/4" TS and Neutrik SpeakON terminations.

Low frequency driver sports a 2.5" / 64mm diameter edge-wound ribbon voice coil, providing a cross-sectional wire area in the voice coil gap
JBL 2414H-C 1" (25mm) polymer diaphragm compression driver delivers high frequency response
The network topology crossover design shapes the frequency response to deliver coherent summation in the crossover region
High-voltage capacitors and inductors with cores and heavy gauge wire enable the crossover network to handle high power without saturating
Progressive Transition high frequency waveguide provides coverage control, reduced distortion, and smoother frequency response
The enclosure is constructed from 0.75" / 19mm MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) to ensure durability and suitable low-frequency performance
SonicGuard protection for high frequency driver preserves against excess power without interrupting performance
Non-resonant, all-steel handles
18-gauge perforated, steel grille for protecting internal components from damage
Dual-angle pole-mount socket allows the speakers to tilt 10° for more uniform audience coverage

JBL JRX212 Reviews

Exactly as expected

These speakers sound and work exactly as you would expect from a JBL speaker. Although they are a base line model, they perform great with our setup. They are paired with the same model line 18 subwoofer and EQed to remove most of the bass. However, I suspect they would sound great full range.

good unit

Wood boxes retain more bass than plastic so thats a plus. The negative is that they are heavier. However the carpet boxes take more punishment than the plastic on the road and I have 4 of these and they look good after 3 years of abuse. I dont like passives because theres no amp but I got a light weight Crown XLS1502 to power them up and it weighs only 9 lbs so thats not bad. I never had a client tell me that theres too much high end but I had a client that wanted more bass but I dont own a bass cabinet. Overall they sound good, not spectacular and do the trick for most bands, wedding DJs and PA sound. Also they are cheap enough to ruin and easily buy another one.
