Datavideo TP-500 overview

  • 1Description

The Datavideo TP-500B DSLR Prompter Kit for iPad and Android Tablets with Bluetooth/Wired Remote is built for use with DSLRs and works with your iPad or Android tablet running Datavideo's free DV Prompter software, and the included remote control is approved to work with the downloadable DV Prompter software. The prompter's cradle is adjustable, allowing it to accept tablets ranging from 4.1" to 7.8" wide. The prompter uses 60/40 partially silvered glass to reflect the text from your iPad toward the talent. The glass is labeled with red and green stickers that identify which side faces your camera's lens when you first assemble the unit, or after removing the glass for cleaning.

The prompter features an adjustable height camera platform for mounting your DSLR, and centering it within the prompter glass. Hook-and-loop fasteners allow you to attach the lens hood to prevent light from flaring the mirrored glass. When shooting exteriors, you can attach the included side curtains for additional protection from glare. The adjustable iPad/tablet cradle can be mounted in standard prompting position or in a below-the-lens configuration if the situation presents itself.

The included remote can connect to your tablet by Bluetooth or wired connection. To connect the remote to your tablet, use the 9' long cable. Charging of the remote is accomplished via an optional USB charger or by connecting it to your computer via the included USB charging cable.
Please Note: The remote only supports the free downloadable DV Prompter software, and is not known to work with other software.
The prompter is designed to be used with DSLR cameras, and features an adjustable camera plate for centering adjustments.

    Datavideo TP-500 reviews

TP-500B DSLR Prompter Kit for iPad and Android Tablets with Bluetooth/Wired Remote is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased Ok, we as a company got tired of filming our subjects and having the issue of the speaker noticeably looking to the top, side, bottom of the camera while reading their script during recording. We do most of our recordings via a Canon DSLR and used an iPad for a teleprompter. This product worked extremely well for our needs. Easy installation, durable and effective. I've not noticed any issues with the footage being recorded darker. The text is displayed the way it should on the teleprompter glass. My only con to this would not be the hardware itself, it would have to deal with the app being used for the teleprompter that you need to get for free from the app store and the remote. In itself, the app works as it should. But with the remote, both wired and wireless, it can be a pain. The keys to forward, slow down, etc. does not work that well. It proved to be more beneficial for us to download an alternate app and use it, which does work with the remotes. But for the product itself, I still give it five stars because it does work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made, but with lots of quirks This is very well made. I was able to assemble it quickly, and mounted by Canon 5D. However, it has a few quirks: (1) The glass has velcro at the bottom, but there's no matching velcro on the teleprompter side, so you have to keep the glass in place by forcing the tablet holder against it. (2) The remote control says that if you open it, the warranty will be voided, but then it fell apart on my hands. It feels like a $2 piece of plastic. I was able to re-assemble it and it works. (3) I was not able to make the control work with an iPad: the instructions just do not match what the product does; however, I was able to use my Android phone, and it worked right away. (4) I tried using it with another android tablet, and although it connected, many of the app features would just not work. After a couple hours of fiddling, I just gave up. However, using a phone works so remarkably well, that you really don't need a tablet or iPad to use this. (5) The hight adjustment is somewhat limited, and my camera lens hits the frame of the prompter. It still works, but I wish they had added 1/2 of more leeway to adjust the height of the prompter relative to the camera. Now that I've used it for a week, I could not imagine working without this teleprompter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great accessory Use with my Canon 70D and Android tablet. Amatuer talent I have hired as spokesperson as turned semi-pro thanks to this device. Associated DV software app works well though could offer both bigger fonts and slower speeds. But at a large size and slowest speed setting, I can use it and so can my hired gun. Works well with my 10-inch tablet but can't be adjusted small enough to use with even my large smart phone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BEWARE: Glass replacement unavailable Beware that it is impossible to find a replacement glass. I dropped mine by accident, and neither BH nor any US supplier can find it. I ordered from the UK, and after 2 months of waiting had to cancel the credit card charge. The manufacturer does not sell directly to customers and is unresponsive to BH when they try to get it for me. I am buying another from BH, from another manufacturer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Package, Big Service This DRLS mounting teleprompter package performs as promised. Once I found the set up instructions on line it was an easy set up. It readily mounted to my tripod and it easily accepted my Canon 5D. It is exactly what I needed in my small studio shooting for FaceBook.
