Yes, you may insert an SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card into the Vivitar 50-in-1 Memory Card Reader / Writer and connect the card reader to a computer to transfer files from your computer to the SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card.

When plugged into computer, will it give a drive number? Trying to recover deleted files, and when my card is in the camera I don't get the needed drive letter.

Yes the files should come up as a drive letter, but not number. It also will show after the drive letter what you have named the SD card.

This won't run on my windows 7?

I am currently using this card read with Windows 7 on a Dell laptop. I use with CF and SD cards. Once the reader is inserted into the USB port and a card is inserted into the reader, click on the Windows Start icon (bottom left) and then click on Computer. This will pull up the various devices plugged in including the reader. Then just open the reader and your files. Not sure what else could be wrong. With a card inserted it won't just come up on the screen. You need to go in and dig it out as I mentioned above.
