The EXH-6 from Zoom adds two additional XLR/TRS combo inputs to the Zoom H5 and H6 handheld recorders. This makes the H5 capable of recording up to four external signals simultaneously, and the H6 up to six. Capable of handling either mic or line-level signals, each input is equipped with its own preamp and -20 dB pad. Please note, this module does not provide phantom power.

EXH-6 Dual XLR/TRS Combo Input Capsule for H5 and H6 Recorders is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2 extra inputs but low power amps The good: It adds 2 more inputs (L-R) The bad: No phantom power, lower volume than inputs 1-4 I use this for two microphones, a Shure SM7b and Golden Age R1 MKII. While the Shure SM7b is a pretty quiet microphone, with the four other inputs, and the gain at 7, it is loud enough for most recordings. With the EXH-6, I usually need to turn the gain up to 8.5-9 to achieve the same result. As such, the EXH-6 is a good addition if you have a good 'loud' microphone (the Blue Encore 100 works fine at 6/7 with this) or if you want to add too more inputs with a preamp or something that adds phantom power to the line. (Or throw in a Fethead or Cloudlifter on top of this to boost the signal.) It works well and I'm pleased with it despite the drawback. With a little extra change the EXH-6 and another piece of gear makes the Zoom H6N a valid 6 track recorder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from H6 XLR capsule The H6 as a whole ROCKS... but with the addition of the XLR capsule, i was able to capture the key elements of a live show with clarity, and bring the stacks back into the studio for processing.I love the physical trim pots and pads. This wasn't a problem for me, but if you buy this unit be aware that although the onboard XLRs have phantom power, the XLR capsule does not.... just plan your track assignments wisely. The band I'm working with is purchasing a second H6 and XLR capsule so we'll have 12 tracks for live recording.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recoding Dream Connection Leave it to Zoom to create a Double Header LOL. I have taught drums for 25+ years, my drum kit and my students drum kit (in my studio), bit have Audio Technica AT-2020's over each set, with the EXH-6 connected to my Zoom H5, I am able to connect the H5 to make recording's for my students in high quality and send them home. When on a music job, I am also able to connect the EXH-6 with dual Electro Voice Mic's through my H5, into my Zoom R24 mixing/recoding board and make some great recordings! It's easy to snap on/off of the Zoom H5 and H6, and works like a dream!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy it again Works well, to expand my HR6 to a 6 track recorder. I was disappointed to find it won't support phantom power on these 2 channels, and it does state these in the book. My lavs are all self powered, so for my use it shouldn't be a problem in video shoots. I still have the 4 tracks with phantom to work with for shotgun mics. It is nice that the LR channels can be recorded individually with different volumes like other channels. The preamps on the HR6 are a little noisy above a level of 8.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice addition to the Zoom F4 This makes input channels 5 & 6 on the Zoom F4 much closer in function to the main inputs 1 though 4 by adding XLR/TRS jacks and mic pre-amps. Build quality is very good (thought the connectors don't lock as they do on recorder's Neutrik jacks). Frequency response is flat with 1 dB from 20Hz to 20kHz. Signal-to-noise is greater than 90dB at line level. I measured a noise level around -60dB on the mic input at maximum gain (knob at 10). Not bad at all. Distortion is a bit of a stumble at 0.3% but I believe this is a function of the recorder, not the EXH-6 (I measured the same using the mini-jack input). By comparison, the main jacks are less than 0.01%. Also it doesn't provide phantom power as the main inputs do, but that's fine for my application. Overall I recommend it if you need more inputs on your recorder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Big Help for Run and Gun After some research, I found it was possible to use this module with my H6 to record -10db back up tracks for my two wireless lavs(this doesn't work with the inputs on the body of the H6). Great customer service btw; after searching online for a while and coming up empty, I did what I should've done at the start and just called the company. Had an answer from a live human in less than ten minutes. No back and forth! Shooting short scenes for an actor's promotional materials as I do, we're a small crew with limited time on set so his is invaluable; a backup track means I can set one track fairly hot and still have a backup in case an actor get's very loud and clips. It's fairly hands-off now; no riding the gain controls. The build is solid and it's very easy to use. Would love to see this feature in the existing body's inputs but this is a relatively inexpensive option and perfect for what I do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great accessory for the Zoom H6 I recently used this on a shoot where I needed additional mic inputs beyond the 4 that that the Zoom H6 gives you. I was able to record on all 6 channels of the H6 with wired inputs. It can accept both XLR and 1/4 jack inputs and has manual volume control for both channels, making adjustment easy to make on the fly.
