Zoom EXH-6 Reviews

Essential add on for Zoom H6

You can add two channels to your H6 with the jack on the included microphone, but this makes it somewhat simpler. It is solidly built and doubles the weight of the H6 assembly! Biggest gripe is that the XLR jacks don't have locking mechanisms (nor does the H6).

Excellent

I got this to use with my U44. In terms of feel, it has some heft. I was surprised by that (in a good way). It feels solid, and connects easily. This makes my U44 have 6 ins- which is super handy. The gain control knobs are easy to adjust and again feel quite sturdy. Note that it does NOT provide phantom power- that only comes from the 2 combi-jacks on the unit itself. Great accessory. I recommend highly.

Amazing Quality at an affordable price

I bought this to complete my accessories for my Zoom H6. Like all of the Zoom equipment I have owned, the quality of the audio, as well as the construction, is fantastic. We use this for field recording for our Travel Radio Show as well as video narrations in our studio. With this addition, we can use this unit as a full mixer/recorder for remote broadcasts. There is one design shortcoming and that is if you are recording your own voice, you can't see the VU meters to set your levels. A small mirror has solved that problem.

The Finishing Touch

I have the Zoom H6 that has 3 XLR inputs. I am doing Field interviews with 4 guests and a moderator, so I needed 5 inputs. This product allows me to utilize the full potential of the Zoom H6. I am pleased. This is my non-technical take of the functionalities of this product.

Excellent Capsule

Great Capsule for the Zoom H6. This gives you the ability to gain two more XLR or Quarter Inch cables right into the Zoom for expansion to six inputs. Great sounding quality!

Good addition to the H5

Worked great for H5. Nice to have the option to add 2 more XLR inputs. Just know that it does not supply the 48v.

Fair enough for adding a couple dynamic mics.

Lovely to have 2 more inputs but the lack of phantom power means you are just using dynamic mics. Did not work with the H5 as I had hoped and led me to consider the H6 and H8. Really have to bump the gain. Works within the limits and I can see grabbing some affordable battery-powered lavs or buying a portable phantom power supply. Just adds more stuff and I think the H8 and even the 6 may negate this need.

Just GREAT

So I can have two back up tracks. One for each input?
Asked by: Don
When using the backup recording function included on devices such as the H6, a stereo backup file will be created. The left side of the file will be from input 1 of the EXH-6, the right side of the file will be created by input 2. This stereo file can be split into two separate mono files in post.

Since this module does not provide phantom power, to the added XLR's, can anyone recommend gear to cover that gap?
Asked by: Roger L.
If you want to connect condenser mics to this input then you would require a phantom power supply for those mics like the Rolls PB223 for example. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155423-REG/Rolls_PB223_PB223_Dual_48V_Phantom.html

What is the input impedance on these XLR ports? Do they support a Hi-Z mode for guitar pickups? Trying to figure out the easiest way to add a DI for H5/H6
Asked by: Alan
John is correct, the XLR/TRS inputs are not Hi-Z inputs for guitars. I recommend running guitars through a direct box and then into the XLR inputs of the Zoom.
