Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 Reviews

A Night Photographer's Staple

If you shoot astro and milky way, this is it! - It's nicely wide, even on a crop sensor - 2.0 is plenty fast to keep your ISO down and still avoid star trails - surprisingly sharp wide open and razor sharp 5.6 and up - focus ring has a long throw, is firm, yet buttery smooth. No creep - If you do infrared, there is no red dot, so you need to test focus - mine came with a petal hood - mine is a Pentax mount, so has no confirmation chip - this means no EXIF data other than lens focus distance is written - I use back-button focusing, so can easily focus even without chip Good lens, and for the money a total bargain. Image Quality wise it is on par with my Pentax 15/4 Limited

4.5 Stars. It works great with my K-S2 with the exception that it is hard to turn the F-stop ring while mounted to the camera (flash overhang of body is too close to lens, but that is a Pentax issue and not the lens). Was surprised, but ecstatic, how sharp my photos were shooting hand held in dusk lighting at F2.0. Not bothered by manual focus, but would appreciate at least an ability to project focus indication in the viewfinder so I didn't always have to use the external viewscreen to do my focusing. This is why I pull a half star back. Bought to use for Aurora shooting, haven't had a chance to test that, but feeling confident. Highly recommend for landscape style at the very least.

Will this lense work on Canon RP with the adapter RF -?
Asked by: Hanh
The Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Canon EF-S Mount is an apsc lens and the Canon RP is full frame so it will crop the full frame sensor of the RP. Less than half of the available megapixels will be used, but the lens will work with the Canon EF RF adapter.

Hello! Does it work perfectly on an APSH 1.4 crop sensor suck the 1DXii 4k mode?
Asked by: zaro
No, sorry it will not work perfectly. In fact, it would not work without severe vignetting. We are also of the opinion that it will not even mount on the camera since EF-S lenses are blocked from mounting on an EF mount cameras.

I own this lens. Has anyone ever tried it on a FF body? The reason I ask, is that it connects to the 7D at the red dot, not the white square. It takes great shots for astrophotography, no coma to my eye at all. I focus using live view, magnified, mirror lock up, and at ISO 1600, +1.5 EV, works great at new moon. Remote shutter release a must.
Asked by: Mark
This is an Canon EF-S lens, which means it is for cropped sensor cameras. It will not work with Canon Full Frame Cameras that have a EF mount. They are not compatible.

How is does this lens perform in video mode? Looking for a budget option to the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 because I don't have a mirrorless camera.
Asked by: Ruben
This is a great choice when compared with the Sigma, but with two potential disadvantages. Its aperture is a little smaller than the Sigma's f/1.4, and this lens is manual-focus only, whereas the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 has autofocus capabilities.
