Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

The 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Canon EF-S Mount from Rokinon is a manual focus wide-angle lens compatible with APS-C format DSLR digital cameras. It provides a 79.5° angle of view which translates into a 35mm format equivalency of 25.6mm. A fast maximum aperture of f/2.0 is effective in low light shooting and provides shallow depth of field. With two aspherical lens elements and one extra-low dispersion element, chromatic aberrations are minimized and sharp, color-accurate images are the result. UMC lens coating facilitates even light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare.

Wide angle focal length equivalent to 25.6mm in the 35mm format
Fast f/2.0 maximum aperture for effective low light shooting and shallow depth of field
Aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion lens elements reduce aberrations
UMC lens coating allows even light transmission and minimizes ghosting and flare

    Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 reviews

16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Canon EF-S Mount is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great affordable, wide angle lens This is a really solid wide angle lens, especially for the price. There is some image distortion that you might associate with other wide angle lenses, but i actually like that look for certain shots. It is a manual lens which might prevent some people from getting it, but since i use it primarily for video, it's a major plus for me as i can easily adapt it across camera platforms. The f/2 aperture also makes it ideal for lowlight situations. The only complaint that i have, is that it is meant only for aps-c and m4/3 sensors. It would be nice to have to option to use it on full frame sensors although that would probably increase the price significantly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice manual focus lens I've only had this lens for 2 days, but love it. Takes a little getting used to as far as focus, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. Buttery movement on the focus ring, stays put. Damping is perfect. Using on a Canon 7D, very easy to use. I use live view to focus, then shoot using remote shutter release. Some folks have said that the focal markings are off, mine are almost dead on. A little soft in the corners wide open, but gets pretty good at f2.8 or f4. Using mostly for astrophotography, so wide open isn't an issue for that. Landscape color and sharpness are great with this baby, minute CA at wide open, easy to fix in post.IMHO great lens for the money. Would recommend to anyone who's not afraid to learn to use a fully manual lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 'I would buy again and recommend I use this lens with my infrared modified Canon EOS-M. Given the 1.6x crop factor, this lens is an excellent solution for the wide angle needs of this camera, giving an effective focal length of 25 mm. There are no IR hot spots or image distortion. The 77mm filter size is good with no vignette. For the price this lens is an excellent choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic lens for astro photography After using this lens in the Mojave Desert a few weeks ago, I realized how special this Rokinon 16mm really is. I was stunned with the quality of the shots -- even with little natural light. The manual focus on this lens is very easy to use, and I would recommend Rokinon to anyone who is interested in taking shots of the Milky Way. I'm so glad I invested in this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great IQ and affordable Sharp, inexpensive lens. Manual focus, no image stabilizer, no metadata .... not a problem for landscape or astrophotogaphy. Distortion, vignetting, and CA not too bad...Easily corrected in LR. Lens profiles are in latest LR CC upgrade 6.4. Lens hood is very loosely connected and infinity marking is off on focus ring..Bottom line great IQ and affordable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sharp! Dang, this lens is sharp. You have to step up to 'L' glass to get anything comparable and pay 2-3 times the price. There's a little CA in the corners, but that is easy to fix in post. Only other complaint is the lens cap is flimsy junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for me. I have had a chance to use my new lens several times now on night-time landscape and Milky Way photography, and I am well pleased. It is easy to use, and costs so much less than an automatic lens of similar quality. I would not use the automatic features anyway. The photo quality is excellent. The f 2.0 gives me tremendous latitude shooting, as I do, in the dark. I use it with the Canon mount with my Canon 60 da. For me, this is a great deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice sharp lens Love this lens for astrophotography. Very sharp even wide open. Like the fun of it being totally manual, sharpens your skills at using the camera/lens combo. I focus using live view, then shut it off after focusing. Very little coma with this lens for what I enjoy shooting, Milky Way shots. Focus ring perfectly damped, stays put. Would easily recommend this lens to anyone interested in this type of photography. Very happy with it!
