The VPL-GT100 is Sony's Compact Commercial Projector delivering true 4K resolution with SXRD technology. The GT-100's heart is comprised of three 0.74" SXRD imaging chips offering 4K resolution each and its extra-large ED glass projection lens. The GT-100 delivers 8.8 megapixels, or four times the resolution of 1080p HD. In practical terms this means a cinematic image on par with 35mm film. The image is crisp, bright, and smooth, and pixels are not discernible even when standing directly in front of the screen. You don't need to sit farther away from the projection surface to see a smooth picture; conveniently sit at a distance 1.5 times the screen's height, known as "immersive viewing". Of course you don't need to sit that close - in fact the high picture quality lends itself well to much larger projection areas for use in venues such as theaters, planetariums, museums, and amusement parks.
Moreover, this improved detail and crispness is not confined to native 4K content only; all lower-resolution formats, including 1080p HD Blu-Ray discs and standard-def DVDs, are improved with the 'Reality Creation' enhancement system. Rather than just duplicate the native pixels, the processor analyzes each pixel in several directions, mapping out smooth transitional content. This upscaling technology results in cleaner, smoother pictures with noticeably less screendoor effect, jagged edges, and artifacts. In fact, lower-quality recording formats are also improved with this method.Thanks to the SXRD technology, the dynamic 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio renders rich and vibrant blacks with bright and sharp whites. The automated iris optimizes contrast ratio and light output to the ambient light in the projection area during operation. The feature can be disabled for manual iris control. Another important aspect of the projector is its full 3D capability. 3D content from numerous input formats, such as Blu-Ray disc, cable, or satellite via HDMI or DisplayPort, is clear and crisp with virtually no loss of brightness or crosstalk. As with all inputs, Reality Creation upscales 3D content too. The resulting picture is vivid, well defined, and saturated with color, and movement is smooth. The high resolution, alongside the massive color-range, 3D capabilities and fast response to controllers enables the projector to deliver enhanced realism and perform optimally in demanding functions. The most evident feature is its extra-large front ARC-F (All Range Clear Focus) projection lens. Made of ED glass for optimal light transmission, it delivers smooth, vibrant images and lifelike color fidelity with equal quality from corner to corner. It is protected by a double sliding-door that automatically opens when the projector is turned on and closes upon powering down; in case of a malfunction, a bypass system lets you open the doors manually. The fins surrounding it aren't merely stylistic; they are a heat sink, redirecting high temperatures away from the lens. A 330W lamp delivers 2000 lumens of brightness for lively, bright images. The projector can be mounted in either portrait or landscape position for more flexible installation. Control panels are easy and intuitive and are accessible via the provided backlit remote control.
