The VPL-GT100 is Sony's Compact Commercial Projector delivering true 4K resolution with SXRD technology. The GT-100's heart is comprised of three 0.74" SXRD imaging chips offering 4K resolution each and its extra-large ED glass projection lens. The GT-100 delivers 8.8 megapixels, or four times the resolution of 1080p HD. In practical terms this means a cinematic image on par with 35mm film. The image is crisp, bright, and smooth, and pixels are not discernible even when standing directly in front of the screen. You don't need to sit farther away from the projection surface to see a smooth picture; conveniently sit at a distance 1.5 times the screen's height, known as "immersive viewing". Of course you don't need to sit that close - in fact the high picture quality lends itself well to much larger projection areas for use in venues such as theaters, planetariums, museums, and amusement parks.

Moreover, this improved detail and crispness is not confined to native 4K content only; all lower-resolution formats, including 1080p HD Blu-Ray discs and standard-def DVDs, are improved with the 'Reality Creation' enhancement system. Rather than just duplicate the native pixels, the processor analyzes each pixel in several directions, mapping out smooth transitional content. This upscaling technology results in cleaner, smoother pictures with noticeably less screendoor effect, jagged edges, and artifacts. In fact, lower-quality recording formats are also improved with this method. Thanks to the SXRD technology, the dynamic 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio renders rich and vibrant blacks with bright and sharp whites. The automated iris optimizes contrast ratio and light output to the ambient light in the projection area during operation. The feature can be disabled for manual iris control. Another important aspect of the projector is its full 3D capability. 3D content from numerous input formats, such as Blu-Ray disc, cable, or satellite via HDMI or DisplayPort, is clear and crisp with virtually no loss of brightness or crosstalk. As with all inputs, Reality Creation upscales 3D content too. The resulting picture is vivid, well defined, and saturated with color, and movement is smooth. The high resolution, alongside the massive color-range, 3D capabilities and fast response to controllers enables the projector to deliver enhanced realism and perform optimally in demanding functions. Well-suited for simulation, industrial design, scientific visualization, government uses, and entertainment, it delivers the degree of detail, clarity, and speed necessary for these exacting applications. Automotive design, mechanical engineering, command and control, flight simulators, virtual training, and scientific projections, such as astronomy or biology are but some of the intricate solutions well served by this projector. The VPL-GT100 is more compact than previous models, yet offers more functions and improved performance. The most evident feature is its extra-large front ARC-F (All Range Clear Focus) projection lens. Made of ED glass for optimal light transmission, it delivers smooth, vibrant images and lifelike color fidelity with equal quality from corner to corner. It is protected by a double sliding-door that automatically opens when the projector is turned on and closes upon powering down; in case of a malfunction, a bypass system lets you open the doors manually. The fins surrounding it aren't merely stylistic; they are a heat sink, redirecting high temperatures away from the lens. A 330W lamp delivers 2000 lumens of brightness for lively, bright images. The projector can be mounted in either portrait or landscape position for more flexible installation. Control panels are easy and intuitive and are accessible via the provided backlit remote control. Two AA batteries for the remote, a power cord, plug holder, and inlet cover are also included.

High Picture Quality

The Projector offers native 4096 x 2160 resolution, more than four times the resolution of Full HD, for high, pixel-free picture quality. The projector's SXRD panels are optimized for visualization, simulation, and the digital cinema market.

Reality Creation

A detail enhancement system, Reality Creation improves the appearance of fine detail in lower than-native resolution inputs. Pixels are analyzed in different directions and reproduced on the voids of the larger matrix, matching the surrounding pixels. The feature is fully adjustable based on your own tastes.

ARC-F (All Range Clear Focus) Lens Technology

Precisely engineered ED glass lens ensures high, smooth, and bright quality across the entire screen from corner to corner.

Full 3D

The GT-100 can process full HD 3D sources over HDMI or DualDisplay, including 3D content from Blu-ray disc, as well as satellite and cable set-top boxes. Like all content, 3D movies are up-converted to 4K before display for quality similar to its 2D display.

Dynamic Contrast for High Picture Quality

The projector's SXRD panels are engineered to improve the flatness of the pixel surface, lose less light and reflect light in a straight direction. This produces deeper, richer blacks, creating a high contrast ratio.

Iris3 Technology

The iris automatically adjusts output levels to those of the ambient light in real time, resulting in optimal contrast levels. When using this feature, the projector can achieve 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast. The feature can be disabled for manual adjustment prior to viewing.

Wide Color Space for Rich Pictures

The VPL-GT100 offers a wider-than-normal color space, enabling it to show the full color information provided by the professional DCi color specification for movies, and the Adobe RGB color space for stills. The color space is fully controllable and produces most realistic, high-fidelity images.

Picture Position

This feature projects movies in their original aspect ratio, filling up the entire screen without black bars. This is achieved by the SXRD panels and the lens working in synchronicity: the panels produce the original aspect ratio while the lens zooms and focuses for optimal display. Up to five such combinations of lens settings (including focus, zoom, lens shift) and aspect ratio can be stored on-board. The most practical application of this is in 2.4:1 screen format without an anamorphic lens.

Panel Alignment

Electronic panel alignment system helps correct small errors in convergence to minimize color fringing and similar aberrations. The panel alignment system is capable of both global adjustments, in which the entire panel is shifted, as well as zone-by-zone adjustments, in which a small section of the screen is tweaked. Since it's an electronic system, the panel is not physically moved, and all changes are easily reversible.

Smear Reduction

For enhanced realism, the projector's Dark Frame Insertion technology reduces visible smear, and provides smoother, cleaner images in rapid motion.

MotionFlow

MotionFlow is Sony's frame interpolation system, minimizing the blur created by fast-action scenes. It has several settings, controlling the degree to which the blur and judder should be reduced, or entirely removed. It is also capable of adding edge enhancement or digital video effect. You can entirely disable this feature if or when it's not desirable.

4K in Compact Format

With the optical engine using small format SXRD panels and an integrated circuit, 4K resolution projection is available in a compact format, simplifying installation.

Transport Delay Reduction

Utilizing proprietary image processing technology, the projector is optimized to provide minimal transport delay, meaning much faster reaction to external devices such as simulators and game controllers.

Easy Access to Lamp

The lamp is easily accessible from a swinging door located at the top-rear of the projector.

Low Fan Noise

The GT100 is a quiet projector; high lamp mode produces a low rush of air that is audible but not disruptive, while Low lamp mode is as close to silent as a running projector can get.

Portrait Mode Installation Capability

The projector can be installed in either portrait or landscape mode without affecting lamp performance.
