Countryman B6 Overview

The black B6 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone from Countryman connects with plug-in power and audio on left channel via a 3.5mm locking connector. It is a small microphone measuring only 0.1” in diameter.

The changeable protective caps (+0, +4, and +8 dB) provide moisture resistance and allow you to adjust the frequency response to suit different applications or to match other microphones. Each of the 3 omni caps has a different high-frequency response characteristic that controls the amount of crispness or sibilance (response at 15 kHz). With low handling noise and a rugged construction, the B6 Microphone is a suitable choice for theater, broadcast, places of worship, and general lavalier applications.

The omnidirectional mic ships with the +4 dB protective cap attached. This will boost the perceived amount of presence in your sound, while leaving the lower frequencies unchanged.

Note: The B6 lavalier should always be used with a protective cap in place to keep sweat, makeup, and other foreign material out of the microphone. If you experience problems with high-frequency feedback, you should switch to the 0 dB cap.

Nearly Invisible and Unobtrusive
With a diameter of only 0.1" (2.5 mm), the size of a No. 2 pencil lead, the mic capsule virtually disappears when worn. The B6 is easily hidden in the hair, on costumes, or can be taped to a performer's face. The B6 color matches clothing, hair, and skin tones.
Good Sound Quality
It provides high-quality audio with low distortion at SPL up to 140 dB on 48V Phantom Power. The aramid cable combined with the ultra-thin diaphragm ensures low handling noise. The tiny size combined with natural sound pickup make the B6 easy to position for ambient noise and feedback rejection.
Sensitivity
The most sensitive (W4, gray band) is for general speaking, such as presentations or public addresses, where the mic is positioned on the chest or lapel.
Rugged and Reliable
The B6 is resistant to makeup, sweat, and moisture when used with the supplied protective caps and is well-suited to use in the hair or on the body. The protective caps can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement when clogged with makeup. The aramid-reinforced cable and rugged alloy construction ensure that the cable provides appreciable tensile and flex strength.
True Color
The color of the mic is precision-matched to theater makeup shades to blend with a wide range of skin tones and clothing.
Water Resistance
The mic is water-sealed so you can use it in the hair or against the skin under hot theater lights without sweat-outs.
Versatile
Changeable protective caps let you shape the frequency response for different situations or to match other microphones. For different speaking or singing styles, additional caps with up to 140 dB SPL capabilities can be purchased separately.

Countryman B6 Reviews

Not nearly as rugged as advertised. Costly to repair.

These microphones are amazing when you first get them: They're tiny, they sound great, they are advertised by Countryman as being rugged and reliable and they're not terribly expensive. They are great when you first start using them. Unfortunately, in my experience they are DEFINITELY NOT rugged and reliable. I've had to send them off for repair TWICE after minimal use. The most recent time, the repair estimate came back saying both microphones needed to be replaced and the cables were corroded. Total cost: $493. So, to repair them (again), Countryman wants 75% of the cost of a new mic? Please. Keep in mind: These mics were used minimally -- maybe 20 days in a 2 year span, and NOT in extreme conditions. I was only using them in normal use scenarios. Their own advertising boasts that the mics can sit in soda! After seeing this latest repair estimate, I'm inclined to just buy some other mics.

I've mostly had middle grade lav mics. Not the worst but not the best. This mic is so great I wish I would have just bought this sooner and saved myself so much hassle. Because of the size of the mic I can put on talent so much easier. There's way less rustling noise, which was the biggest challenge with the cheaper mics and the biggest frustration in even using lav mics. This mic makes me want to use it in all situations now. If I had a shotgun interview situation I use to want to have a safety lav mic but didn't want to deal with the hassle of the other mics. Now I'm happy I'll have both shotgun and lav for my interviews. And for walk and talk stuff I know I'll have less post hassle in that this mic will be clear and clean audio with little if none of noise issues.

No it may not work correctly. You need the ones that are wired with a 3.5mm Locking connector for Sony and the ones that the catalog number ends with SN See item# COB6W4BSN

Cananyone tell me how this performs if you have two speakers close to each other? Is there significant mic bleed between two mics in close proximity (like guest/host interview?) And if used over a PA or speaker system, does the PA bleed into the Mic? Thanks!

Two people can be sitting or standing next to each other and there will be minimal bleed. These mics are omnidirectional, but are finely tuned to supress feedback, if P.A. speakers are placed in front of the talent, facing away. I would recommend this pick-up pattern to allow subjects to move their heads back and forth, without volume fluctuating.
