Lumedyne X Flash Recycle Accelerator Overview

The Lumedyne X Flash Recycle Accelerator for Canon is an innovative way to power your flash while halving its recycling time and doubling the battery life of the flash's on-board AAs.

Due to its extremely light weight, small size and lithium battery, it's hard to call the X a battery pack. Lumedyne opts instead for calling it a "recycling accelerator" which partially explains how it functions. The X plugs into the HV input on your compatible Canon flash, completely bypassing the electronic functions of the flash like the LCD display etc. Instead it goes straight for the "engine room" boosting your flash's recycling and filling of its capacitors. While other products that use several AA batteries operate on the same principle, the X does it in a bantam 0.6 by 1.7 by 2.8" form factor that weighs only 2.7 oz, while multiple battery solutions weigh at least 1.0 lb and require a cable that, as we all know, is a real annoyance when flipping from vertical to horizontal compositions.

The X's battery fully recharges from depletion in about 3 hours. Since it's chemically composed of lithium-ion, it doesn't have a memory, allowing "topping up" of power before it's exhausted. The battery is good for 500 cycles (charges) or about 2 years. It is replaced free of charge if the capacity has dropped 25% before that time. Charge level is displayed by pressing a button that lets you know when it's down to 1/3 charge.

The X comes with a dual USB-style international AC Charger and a dual USB-style vehicle charger both rated for up to an amp each in output. Long and short USB MICRO-B cables are also included.

The X Factor
The X makes your on-camera flash recycle about twice as fast as normal with any power setting or mode. AA batteries only have to do about half of the recycle work and last twice as long
Small and Light
The X measures only 0.6 x 1.7 x 2.8" and weighs just 2.7 oz
Innovative Technology
Not a conventional battery pack, the X allows your flash's electronics such as the LCD display to be powered by its own AAs, while the X helps recycle and fill the capacitors directly

question

Would a neck or shoulder strap attached to the camera body lugs interfere with this product? It looks like it would.
Asked by: Larry F. L.
I will surmise that it likely will. Depending upon what you are photographing, you may be able to successfully manage the strap and X Flash.I do not employ the camera neck strap on the camera body that employs the X Flash unit. However, looking at my second camera that does use the neck strap, but not the X Flash unit, I believe my opening sentence is correct. Personally, I do not like a neck strap. Most of the time. But, a friend that helps me at times likes the neck strap, so I usually leave it on. However, when I'm in a third world country, I do utilize the neck strap as a security situation.I really do like the performance of the X Flash unit.

question

Does this work on a 580 flash ?
Asked by: Mark G.
Yes, the 580ex and the 580ex II both have an external power port. It will work with others as well, any Canon on-camera flash with HV connector.
