HGST IDK 7200 overview

  • 1Description

The 2TB HUS724020ALE640 UltraStar 7K4000 HDD from HGST is a hard drive designed to work in some of the most demanding environments. Utilize this drive in conjunction with a variety of other drives in cloud storage, massive scale out configurations, data warehousing and mining, RAID arrays and more. The 2TB storage capacity is sufficient for storing a variety of files including videos, photos, documents and more. Access data quickly and efficiently through the integrated SATA 6Gb/s interface supporting data transfer rates up to 600 MB/s along with a 64 MB data buffer ensuring a fast, efficient data flow.

Increasing Capacity Density by One Third
Lower operating costs without expanding floor space by reducing W/GB. To meet these demands, Ultrastar 7K4000 delivers 33% more capacity in the same footprint at 24% lower W/GB than its predecessor, Ultrastar 7K3000. Take advantage of 2.4PB in the footprint of a standard 19-inch enterprise storage rack by stacking ten 4U, 60-bay enclosures. Ultrastar 7K4000 dual port SAS is available in traditional 512, 520 and 528 byte sector size. Ultrastar 7K4000 SATA is an Advanced Format drive, using 4096-byte sector size to provide enhanced capacity. Advanced format drives are backwards compatible with legacy 512-byte sector size by offering built-in 512-byte emulation through the SATA interface.
Combining 7200RPM Performance and Granular Power Control
Operating at 7200RPM, Ultrastar 7K4000 offers better overall performance than slower RPM capacity-oriented drives, and does so with lower power-consumption rates. The Ultrastar 7K4000 can help data centers achieve lower AC power and HVAC requirements. With five Advanced Power Management modes, the 7K4000 achieves a 59% reduction in watts during lower RPM idle mode, and uses less than 2W during standby/sleep modes, freeing up headroom.
Innovating for a More Sustainable Environment
The Ultrastar 7k4000, with its halogen-free design and power-efficient operation, qualifies for the HGST EcoTrac classification.
Enhanced Capacity
This 2TB HDD is a high capacity enterprise class drive available in a single platform.
Performance
With a 7200RPM rotational speed you benefit from increased performance for business critical applications along with the ability to maintain drive performance in high rotational vibration environments and multi-drive systems.
Reliability
Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) with internal thermal sensors provides improved soft error rate detection for improved reliability and performance. The head load/unload feature protects disks during non-operation.
Security
Optional Bulk Data Encryption (SATA) and TCG Enterprise_A (SAS) encrypts drive data, providing security and easy redeployment.

    HGST IDK 7200 reviews

    2TB HUS724020ALE640 UltraStar 7K4000 HDD is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliability is the key to my heart I love disk drives that let me worry less. A couple of years ago I started buying UltraStar enterprise-grade drives, after laying to rest a few consumer-grade drives that died too young. I was attracted to these UltraStar drives by their five-year warranty and excellent MTBF ratings. Once I made the switch, I never looked back. In the past six years I've purchased 19 UltraStar drives, and one has been in service as my system drive almost 24/7 for those six years. I've never had one go bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good reliable drive for NAS system Purchased 7 of these 2TB HGST UltraStar drives for use in a FreeNAS system I built in May-June of 2015. These enterprise-level drives get good reviews and have a reputation for high performance and reliability. My data is important to me, and I prefer to spend a little extra money for quality products. I especially like the 5-year warranty on these drives. One disk arrived DOA, but B&H speedily replaced it. I'm not dinging B&H or HGST for the bad drive, as this can happen with disks from any HDD manufacturer and may very well been the result of damage rec'd during shipping. It has been a little over 7 months now and these drives have performed flawlessly during that time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best HDD drive you can buy I am a freelance DIT, and HGST is the only SATA HDD drive that I would buy. Based on my experience, I believe it is the best enterprise drive on the market. When Western Digital aquired HGST, I was concerned that the HGST and G-Technology brand might suffer. But based on the new products from each, and continued reliability, I think the partnership has been beneficial for WD and HGST (and G-Technology).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems Like a Solid Drive Drive arrived in perfect condition thanks to good consumer packaging. As usual, B&H service was outstanding. My only complaint is that the packaging indicated that a quick start guide was included in the box. It wasn't. Nevertheless, I was able to clone my existing hard drive to the HGST and my system is up and running. The drive is noisier than the WD Blue it replaced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like but too new to tell long term view After looking at and checking specs and reviews on a number of hard drives I decided on this one and I am so far happy that I did. Seems responsive and fast. I will say that it is a bit noisy but I had seen that in another review so I was not surprised. The price was great and as always B&H was tops in service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Drive Drive was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged. Mounting the drive in an external case and formatting it for use as a Time Machine Drive for an iMac was a cinch. Drive is just a little bit noisier that I anticipated, but it works well and I'm hoping to get many years of service from it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No complaints, nice retail packaging I use two of these connected to the integrated SAS 6/iR controller on Dell T7400. I have no complaints about the reliability or speed so far. I really liked the retail packaging that these drives came in from B&H. The drives are really well protected during shipping in this packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HGST Ultrastar drives, the best choice for high capacity I've been using Hitachi drives, especially Ultrastar, since Seagate's Enterprise drives started failed miserably in large batches a few years ago, and never looked back. Very few failures. This one worked flawlessly to upgrade a Drobo storage device.
