MeFOTO A0320Q00 Overview

  • 1Description

The red MeFOTO DayTrip Tripod Kit features a mini tripod with a quick release ball head and a unique design that allows it to reverse-fold down to 9.4". At only 1.8 lb this is the tripod for photographers who claim that they don't want to lug around a tripod. The DayTrip doesn't sacrifice features for small size either. The Q00 Ball Head has a single large ergonomic knob for all pan and tilt adjustments as does the mini Arca-type quick release with a bubble level and included 1/4"-20 camera plate. The ball head and spider are finished in red and echoed by accents on the legs' twist locks.

The legs each have a single extendable section that allows the DayTrip to rise to a maximum height of 24" with the center column extended and 17.3" with it retracted. Three-position independent leg spreading makes macro photography and uneven terrain a snap. The DayTrip comes with the Q00 Ball Head, camera plate and an attractive carrying case with a shoulder strap.

    MeFOTO A0320Q00 Reviews

DayTrip Tripod Kit (Red) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Travel Tripod This tripod is perfect for travel and hiking. It is super light, quick to set up, and holds my 5D mk ii with lens just fine. This is exactly what I was looking for in a travel tripod. I also appreciate that there is a hook on the center post so I can hang some extra weight for support if needed. I like to do star trail and night sky photos while camping, but I hate dragging my full sized monfrotto with me. This little buddy is perfect. Be warned, it is pretty short. This hasn't been a problem in my use, but be prepared to be crouched on the ground for your shots. Or find a table or large rock. This limitation is worth the weight and size savings for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Travel Tripod I have tried for several years to find a small tripod that I could trade with. I do have an aluminum tripod that I have used but you simply can't set up a tripod in many places so I have looked for a table-top type of tripod and discovered this MeFOTO DayTrip. I use a Peak Design system on my camera which works best with a Swiss-ARCA style plate. The DayTrip comes with a MINI Swiss Arca that is too small for the standard plate. I though about removing the MINI plate and replacing it but couldn't get the screw out. I called MeFOTO and they suggested using a Induro plate that could be held by the MINI Swiss Arca. B&H sells this for $75. But I soon realized there are other options so I ordered a DDC-60 SunwayFOTO screw-knob clamp that I attached to the QR plate on the DayTrip

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DayTrip Tripod I attached the plate to my 5D Mark III along with a 70-300 lens attached. The tripod held the camera and lens in a fixed position without any movement. I was only testing the tripod and haven't had any full use with it yet. I was on the extra careful side and kept the neckstrap on. I plan to use this for travel and keep the tripod attached while on hikes and neckstrap on. I will see if it is easy enough to keep on and get quick wildlife shots and still be ready for a landscape or macro shot. Time will tell. Will update with more information when I use it more. Four stars for now for a nice study small tripod.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Non-standard Mini-Arca plate nice tripod I bought the MeFoto DayTrip because I like the small size. It avoids the instability problem of falling over I have had with various other tabletop tripods when using a DSLR camera with a zoom lens. The quality of the tripod is very good, but I had a few issues with it such that I had to replace the ball head because of the mounting plate. The plate is not the standard Arca 37mm wide plate, but is what is being called a Mini-Arca 32mm wide plate. Thus the ball head is incompatible with the larger standard size Arca 37mm plates, such as my Induro PU-50 & PU-60 plates. When I bought mine, there were no replacement mini-Arca plates listed as accessories so I could not review the specs, which much later I found on the MeFoto website. Because I don't want to have two sizes of Arca plates to jumble with on my cameras and tripods, I went out and bought another ball head with standard Arca plates for this tripod. MeFoto would not provide me with the standard-Arca ballheads from their other tripods, so I ordered the Oben BE-108T head which is larger but still works, and has pan control too (unfortunately the supplied QR-10 Arca plate requires Allen wrench to affix it to camera, it has no screwdriver/coin slot). The MeFoto DayTrip tripod has a very nice case (exactly like those with Benro tripods), and it requires complete collapse of the tripod; you have to fold legs back just right. If you wiggle the ball head to the side just right you can get the case zipped up. Finally, the DayTrip tripod I received is always slightly not vertical when you look at the center pole, I keep having to check and pull and tug to approximate true vertical... Not sure why this is so after checking adjustments numerous times -- not a problem unless you are panning horizon. None the less, the quality of the tripod is very good and I would have given max rating except for having to buy another ball head because of the non-standard Arca plate & the vertical issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little portable solution Works great. Adjusts well and holds a rather heavy body and lens very good in windy conditions. The legs and main shaft adjust and tighten well. Aluminum construction is excellent and lightweight while the finish is attractive too. The only complaint I have is the locking mechanisms on the leg angle adjustments. They are aluminum 'locks' that simply slide onto notches machined into the main structure. I can see them wearing and becoming less reliable (they aren't spring loaded and just slide in and out on a rivet) after heavy use over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional and worth the price Long story short: you get what you pay for. This is a sturdy tabletop tripod.Materials/Build Quality: Aluminum makes sense here. The tripod has some welcome heft to it, with thick legs and a nice ballhead. Support: I'm happy beyond expectation with ALL settings legs extended or retracted, with only major exception is the smallest angle setting, the tripod becomes very top-heavy, so I always put it on the 45 degree setting (middle).Tripod head: its very firm, but its not terribly fluid, but you get what you pay for, so overall its very fair.as of October 2014 this is the best table top tripod, period, and although its also more expensive, its very worth it. Sturdy legs, sturdy ballhead and sturdy arca-swiss style clamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for hiking the Smokies The tripod is remarkably stable and smooth to operate. The quality craftsmanship is obvious. It easily fits in my day backpack and is light enough to take on all of my hikes. There is only one thing that I wish was different: I have both the Day trip and Road trip models and the camera slide plates are not compatible. My solution was to purchase a new ball head for the Day trip that was compatible with the Road Trip so that I would not have to be switching plates

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy, elegant, superb little tripod This otherwise 5-star-worthy tripod only gets 4 stars from me because of the mini-arca clamp & plate that it comes with, which isn't ideal for me. I easily replaced the included clamp with a Desmond DAC-25 25mm Mini Clamp (a very well made & reasonably priced modification), and now my MeFOTO DayTrip can accomodate the standard arca plates I keep on all my gear. This tripod is extremely well made. Unfolding the legs is quite satisfying, as they have a good amount of tension, yet the movement is still extremely smooth. You can FEEL the quality engineering and construction. I initially felt a little silly spending this much for a tiny little desktop tripod, but now that I have it, I feel like it was almost a bargain. (Not really, but ALMOST.) I can mount my Canon 6D with 24-105 on it with no troubles at all. With the legs at middle and wide stances, the tripod is rock solid even with the lens fully extended over the space between the tripod legs. At the narrowest (and tallest) leg position, I have to put the lens over a leg for it to feel safely stable, but even then it still doesn't topple without a little push. The main reason I got this tripod was to mount my Zoom H6 recorder on, and it does a lovely job for that. It gives me just enough height that when recording live musical performances in small local venues, I can leave the tripod on the floor (fully extended, with the recorder aimed up a little bit), and my recorder ends up at just about average table height. The tripod is stable enough - even fully extended - to accomodate my H6 recorder with a bunch of XLR cables plugged in to the sides - or even with cables plugged in just on one side, which is a significantly less balanced weight distribution situation. I got the white one because I think it looks like a little Storm Trooper. (TMI..?) :)

    question

Two questions. When the legs are fully extended as close to the ground as possible ( almost flat to the ground) what is the height from the ground? Also, I have read that the mini Arca Swiss style quick release is smaller then the regular. Is that accurate?

    question

Can I change the default ball head into Manfrotto 486RC2 or 496RC2 ball head?
    Asked by: Nestor
The micro head is removable and threads onto a 3/8 pin, so yes any 3/8 female head will work. It's a solid take everywhere tripod.
