    Olympus LH-40B reviews

    LH-40B Lens Hood for M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 Lens is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from LH-40B Lens Hood Works exactly like it should. What I like about it is that there is a nice confirming snap once the hood is attached to the lens. It is nice and firm fitting. I purchased a knockoff$ and despite being same size, the hood doesn't snap into place and is wobbly. My complaint is the ridiculous price for a piece of plastic that should already be included with the lens. For this money it should be metal. Olympus should listen...I bought from B&H simply because they are the best in the industry and usually better priced than competition.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How hard is it to figure out a lens cap? I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out how this thing goes on the lens. It turns out that there is a little protector ring on the lens that needs to come off before you can put the hood on. However, you have to put a little bit of oomph into it. I was kinda concerned that I would damage the lens, but nope. I still think this hood should come with the lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not obvious how it fits...but it does First: around the top/front of the lens is a plastic ring (I guess to protect the threads for the lens cap?). You need to unscrew this. Mine came off easily. Second: screw/click the lens hood gently into the grooves/threads that the plastic rings was covering/hiding/protecting. Simple, but not obvious. To store the lens hood, simply reverse the process, turn it the opposite direction & put it on in reverse. The lens hood does not feel very sturdy and the parts that screw/click to hold it onto the lens do not look like they can take much pressure....but at least there is a lens hood. With the lens hood on, try putting the lens cap back on.....not that easy! The nearness of the glass elements to the outside of the lens is an indication that the lens hood is a must. It really should be sold with the lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from There are Better Options Nice piece of over-priced plastic lens hood. It fits a little loose on my lens, which means it probably will fit a little loose on everybody's lens. So I dumped it and got a screw-in lens hood made for a Leica 37mm that is perfect for the intended lens. But if you do get this hood, and it does feel uncomfortably loose, then there are tricks you can do to make it fit tighter. The issue is the design of the notches in the mounting dimples of the hood. Hold it up in the light and you'll see there's just not enough plastic to facilitate a tight fit. I'm sold on my screw-in hood, but I'm playing with sticking plastic tubing up in the open spaces behind the four each mounting notches to give it more force in holding the hood in place. I'm confident that will work just fine.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Feels Cheap There are a few things I really don't like about this lens hood. 1) That it's not included with the lens. 2) You have to remove a plastic ring on the lens in order to install the lens hood. My gripe with this is, where do I put the plastic ring? It could get lost or break, its just annoying. 3) The plastic lens hood feels really cheap. Olympus, if you are going to charge us for a lens hood, please put in a little more effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made and fits perfectly I've tried 3rd party hoods and they work well, but don't fit as well as this hood which clicks into place smoothly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Hood Fit and function are good and it probably deserves 4.5 stars on its own, but I give it 4 because Olympus should have included it with the lens. (I think they felt enough heat over this issue to finally see the light) The bottom line though is that if you are going to buy the little gem of a lens just buy the Olympus hood that works so well with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good fit, as expected Good hood, works as expected. Mine fits securely. Remember to remove the hood ring from the lens before installing. In a perfect world, this hood would have come with the lens and a centre pinch lens cap. A centre pinch lens cap makes removal of the lens cap easier, when the hood is installed. Not much to complain about, other than the fact that I had to buy this hood separately ($ dollars extra when buying a $ dollar lens, plus another $ bucks for a centre pinch lens cap). Other than that it works fine.
