Presumably this works as a gaming capture device from consoles or other machines with HDMI out (via, for example, OBS Studio)?
Yes it should. Due to the popularity of streaming games, the consoles do not have HDCP protection. This should capture the footage from gaming consoles just fine. The same for a computer with an HDMI output.

Will this work with the blackmagic atem mini pro switcher to capture video?
The Mini Pro can capture to USB connected drives like the following model. https://bhpho.to/3G8cSg3 However if you wanted to connect the AJA UTAP to a computer it would allow you to stream or record video and audio sent from the HDMI output of the Atem Mini Pro.
If you have a Thunderbolt 3 computer another recording idea would be the Black Magic 3G Recorder https://bhpho.to/331tbNz it comes with BM Media Express recording software.

Can this device work with OBS studio?
Can this device work with OBS studio?
I should think so. I have been recording output from a satellite DVR (hdmi out to UTap) and to my Mac laptop (OS 10.13). I have used QuickTime Player and the dropdown menu next to the record button listed the Utap immediately. I should think your software will also display it as a source.
