FILMCITY FC-CTH Overview

From Manufacturer

Protect your DSLR or mirrorless camera and add numerous accessories using this Camera Cage from FILMCITY. The modular cage is made up of durable resin components that are held together by multiple 15mm aluminum rods of varying sizes. It includes a baseplate, quick release camera plate, rubber side handgrips, a top plate, a rubber top handle, a shoe mount, and numerous 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 accessory mounting threads.

Since the cage is modular, you can use all the parts together or remove some parts for a smaller rig if you prefer. The vertical 15mm rods allow you to raise or lower the top plate to fit the size of your camera or change the position of your side handgrips. The bottom rods allow you to mount various accessories such as a separately available follow focus or matte box and adjust within the baseplate. All the rods feature female threads so you can expand your rod length with separately available rod extensions. The camera quick release plate features a 1/4-20 screw to secure your camera in the rig. The bottom plate allows you to mount the rig onto a tripod using a 1/4"-20 thread.

The included tool kit includes all the screws and tools required to assemble the cage.

FILMCITY FC-CTH Reviews

Filmcity? More like Flimsycity

The item has great mounting screw holes and lots of custom options. I added a shoulder pad (not included) so I set my handles lower. The bars also leave space to acces the buttons on a C300 or similar camera. The problem is it doesn’t stay together well. No matter how tight you set the mounting screw the cage falls apart from top to bottom after half an hour of use, even faster if you’re in motion. My solution was to add rubber foam around the bars to prevent movement when tightened. So far it’s working but I haven’t taken it on a full day shoot (quite frankly I’m afraid to) so I can’t say that it will/wont fail somewhere else. I will probably get a higher end item soon.

Not Secure for Camera

No matter how tight I screw down all of these plastic handled screws the handles slip and the bottom of the rig slides right off the bars over time with camera on it. Can't use the handles without worrying about the camera falling off as the rig slides apart. Would not recommend for anyone.

Yes, this cage will fit the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. However, you will need to lower the accessory mounting adapter on the right side of the camera because this will prevent it from sliding onto the baseplate.

The base plate that is included should be fine, as the camera has the same mounting thread, Make sure the dimensions of the camera do not exceed the width of the cage.
