At its 2022 Product Premiere, AMD announced a whole host of graphics cards and processors for gaming, content creation, and productivity. There were the Radeon RX 6500 XT desktop GPU, the Radeon RX 6400 desktop GPU, 20 new AMD Ryzen 6000 Series mobile processors, three new Radeon RX 6000S Series GPUs for thin-and-light laptops, five new Radeon RX 6000M Series GPUs for gaming laptops, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D desktop processor, and more. AMD even teased the upcoming Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors, which will be coming in the second half of 2022.
Radeon RX 6500 XT and 6400 Desktop Graphics Cards
AMD announced the Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card, which features 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM at 18 Gb/s. The Radeon RX 6400 graphics card was also announced and has 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM at 16 Gb/s. Both are built using 6nm process technology, which allows for 1080p performance while still being power efficient. Both cards make Full HD 1080p gaming more accessible.
The Radeon RX 6500 XT is expected be available from AMD partners, such as ASRock, ASUS, BIOSTAR, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, SAPPHIRE, XFX, and Yeston, beginning January 19, 2022. The Radeon RX 6400 will be in pre-built systems in the first half of 2022.
Ryzen 7 5800X3D Desktop Processor
An upgrade to the AMD Ryzen 5000 Series desktop processors was announced, which is the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Powered by Zen 3 core architecture and AMD 3D V-Cache technology, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D features 8 cores with 16 threads and has a boost speed of up to 4.5 GHz. It has a total of 100 MB (L2+L3) cache and a TDP of 105W. Available in Spring 2022, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D will still use the Socket AM4.
Radeon RX 6000S and 6000M Mobile Graphics Cards
AMD also outlined its new line of AMD Radeon mobile graphics cards. Designed for gaming performance while on the go, AMD showcased the Radeon RX 6000M Series GPUs. At the top is the Radeon RX 6850M XT GPU, which can deliver 1440p gaming performance for next-gen gaming laptops. It can offer up to seven percent faster gaming performance, on average, than the previous top Radeon RX 6800M mobile GPU.
While the 6000M Series GPUs are focusing on gaming performance, the 6000S Series GPUs find a balance between performance and efficiency. Designed to fit in slim and thin laptops, the 6000S Series GPUs enable gaming laptops to weigh less than 4.5 pounds. The best 6000S Series GPU is the Radeon RX 6800S at 100W, which can deliver up to 100 fps in select titles at maximum settings. This means it is projected to deliver up to 10 percent more performance, on average, at 1080p than the competition.
Ryzen Mobile Processors 2022
AMD announced a whole lineup of Ryzen mobile processors. The Ryzen 6000 Series processors will be the first to utilize RDNA 2 architecture-based integrated graphics. With graphics performance up to twice as fast as the last gen, you’ll be able to play the majority of PC games in Full HD 1080p. Ryzen 6000 Series processors also have a new integrated display engine, allowing for high resolution and refresh rates. In fact, Ryzen 6000 Series processors can enable up to 70 percent faster AAA gaming compared to the competition. Dynamic HDR displays are supported, and AMD FreeSync technology reduces screen tearing. The Ryzen 6000 Series processors were built on a new platform to include more features, such as advanced DDR5 RAM support, PCIe 4.0 and USB4 support, AI noise cancellation, and powerful Wi-Fi 6E solutions. The Ryzen 6000 Series processors will also be the first x86 processors to support advanced Windows 11 security features fully with the integrated Microsoft Pluton security processor. This secure system enables true chip-to-cloud security.
The AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors will be available through OEM partners, such as ASUS, Dell, and HP, in the beginning of February 2022. AMD expects more availability as the year progresses, with more than 200 consumer and commercial notebooks to utilize the 2022 Ryzen platform.
Ryzen PRO 6000 Series Processors
Also coming in early 2022 are Ryzen 6000 PRO Series processors. These processors will deliver new features and technology on premium platforms. Built on the AMD Zen 3+ architecture and 6nm process technology, the PRO Series processors provide security features, manageability tools, and enterprise-grade stability and reliability for businesses.
Ryzen 7000 Series Processors
While AMD didn’t unveil any actual processors, it did tease that the Ryzen 7000 Series processors will be coming in the second half of 2022. They will be based on the 5nm Zen 4 architecture and will use the new AMD Socket AM5.
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
It wasn’t all hardware. AMD is expanding its software suite, which offers features that provide responsive, low-latency gameplay and high-fidelity visuals. In the first quarter of 2022, AMD is going to release the AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). This driver-based spatial upscaling technology is built on the same algorithm as AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution. RSR delivers near-native resolution in any game that runs in full screen mode on AMD RDNA-based and newer graphics.
Other features in the upcoming AMD Software release are updates to the AMD Link 5.0 app, which allows gamers to play their PC games on their phone, tablet, or Windows PC from virtually anywhere. AMD Privacy View technology, powered by Eyeware, is expected to be available in the first half of 2022. It uses Eyeware’s head- and eye-tracking technology to deliver privacy.
