Have you ever been in the studio wanting to connect your computer, iPhone, iPad, or other wireless device to the monitor setup, but didn’t have any available inputs or couldn’t find the right cables or adapters? Heritage Audio has come up with a really nifty solution to eliminate “mini-jacks” from the studio, with the BT-500, a 500-series module that utilizes audio-specific Bluetooth technology and high-fidelity digital-to-analog (D/A) converters to deliver lossless transmission intended to be superior quality when compared to any analog wired connection.
The unit features a fully differential Burr Brown balanced analog signal path and an integrated antenna on the front panel. The BT-500 supports a variety of Bluetooth codecs including AAC, aptX, and SBC. The system automatically recognizes the best codec option for the connecting device and uses it for streaming. The BT-500 offers one XLR output for right/mono channel and one input connector (male XLR) which can be used as the left output channel for a stereo XLR-balanced connection using the adapter supplied with the module.
The analog outputs deliver a full 0 dBfs+ = +22 dBu output and are able to drive a load of 600 ohms. This provides direct level comparisons while mastering or mixing with Apple’s iTunes Store or mobile stored reference mixes. Since Apple iTunes and YouTube use AAC as a native format, any connected Mac computer, iPad, or iPhone will result in lossless transmission, while Android devices adopted the nearly lossless aptX codec. If a device doesn’t support AAC or aptX, the BT-500 will stream audio using the classic Bluetooth SBC codec.
