Tamron Announces Portrait-Ready 35-100mm f/2.8 Zoom Lens

Tamron is announcing a new high-end standard zoom lens for portrait photographers, the full-frame 35-100mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens for both Nikon and Sony mirrorless mounts. Following in the footsteps of Tamron’s much-vaunted 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD zoom, the new lens compresses the focal range to cover four of the most popular portrait focal lengths while still achieving the coveted compact and lightweight design.

In addition to portraiture, the lens’s high image quality, bright maximum aperture, soft bokeh, and compact design make it an appealing choice for travel and event photography.

The lens’s reconceived optical design helps yield the gains in size, organizing its 15 elements in 13 groups into a zoom mechanism that barely extends the len's overall length as it moves through the zoom range. Autofocus is handled with Tamron’s high-speed, high-precision Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) linear motor focus mechanism, and at the wide end a short minimum focusing distance of 8.7” allows for intimate close-ups of both people and objects.

Build quality benefits from a moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coatings, while the body design boasts an ergonomic exterior for smooth and precise operation.

Released alongside the new lens is a new remote wireless lens control accessory, the TAMRON-LINK. This small USB-C device enables compatible lenses to operate wirelessly in both video and stills applications with Bluetooth 5.4. The supported TAMRON Lens Utility Mobile app is compatible with both Android and iOS.
