Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a walk in the woods. Still, life is busy, and trudging to your trail camera every weekend to retrieve the SD card for image viewing at home can eat up a big chunk of time. Even worse, your visits to your cameras can push game out of the area.
With Spypoint’s Link-Dark trail cam, however, you don’t need to trudge anywhere. The images are sent straight to your smartphone or tablet, 24 hours a day.
The Link-Dark is equipped with an antenna, and Spypoint offers either its own cellular service or Verizon Wireless as a carrier, for a monthly charge. If you’d rather not use a paid plan, Spypoint provides up to 100 photos per month for free. Either way, the company says its data plan activation process is the easiest in the wireless trail cam market. The cam comes with a pre-activated SIM card; simply download the free app to your phone or device, connect to your camera and start receiving images.
The Link-Dark is well-equipped to monitor the comings and goings of wildlife (or people) on your property or hunting grounds. The cam takes 12MP stills (with blur-reduction technology) and 720p video with sound, and features an invisible infrared flash with an 80' range that won’t spook game. Trigger speed is a quick 0.7 seconds, and the detection range is 100'. Date, time, moon phase and temperature are stamped on your photos, placing game activity in the context of circumstances and conditions. Both motion-detected and time-lapse modes are available.
And on those days when you do want to visit your camera, you can scroll through the pictures and videos using the Link-Dark’s 2" color viewing screen.
As with most trail cams, you’ll need to supply your own SD card and batteries (in this case, eight AA cells.) The cam comes with a mounting bracket and strap and is fitted with holes for a security cable.
The Link-Dark can cut way back on your travel time, and eases pressure on game from frequent visits, while reporting activity multiple times a day. During the season, you may even see activity that inspires you to take a walk in the woods the next day—armed for the hunt!
