Clear and bright views, comfortable design, and sleek style make the Zeiss Terra ED series of binoculars a great choice for birding, travel and summer adventures. The Terra 8x42 and 10x42 models boast a generous objective lens that admit plenty of light for a bright image even at lower-light times of day, like dawn and dusk, along with plenty of magnification to pull far-off subjects in close. The 8x25 and 10x25 are a bit more compact and pack-friendly.
All four binos offer the optical quality for which Zeiss is famous: SCHOTT extra-low dispersion glass with multiple layers of anti-reflective coating, Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms, nitrogen purging for fog-proof and waterproof performance, and comfortable rubber-armored grips. They’re also easy to tote at just under 11 ounces. Twist-up rubber eyecups mean the Terra ED is comfortable whether or not your wear eyeglasses or sunglasses. Birders and butterfliers will appreciate the close-focus distance: 5.3 feet for the 42mm models and 5.7 feet for the 25s.
