Rokinon continues to keep itself busy with an ever-expanding range of ever-improving photo and cinema lenses. The company has introduced what will most likely evolve into a well-rounded line of autofocus lenses. The following is a roundup of some of the latest lens offerings from Rokinon, all of which are designed to capture impressively sharp image files at a lower price than their OEM counterparts.
Rokinon AF Lenses
The widest of Rokinon’s new autofocus lenses is the Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 , which for now, is only available in the Canon EF mount. Featuring weatherproof, all-metal construction, Rokinon’s autofocus ultra-wide contains 15 elements in 10 groups including dual Ultra Multi-Coated aspheric elements, a single extra-low dispersion element, and four HRI elements.
Rokinon also rolled out a pair of full-frame 35mm AF lenses for Sony E—one with a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and the other f/2.8. The Rokinon AF 35mm f/2.8 FE contains two aspherical elements and a single HR element, all of which feature Ultra Multi-Coatings. Other features found on this lens include manual-focus override and a seven-blade diaphragm.
The second 35mm AF lens is the Rokinon AF 35mm f/1.4 FE, which along with a two-stop advantage when shooting in low light, features dual pairs of Ultra Multi-coated aspheric and HR lens elements, internal focusing, manual-focus override, and a nine-blade diaphragm.
A Newer and Faster 14mm Manual Focus Ultra-Wide
The Rokinon SP 14mm f/2.4 is a manual-focus ultra-wide-angle lens with a minimum focus of 11". Inside its aluminum-alloy housing are 18 Ultra Multi-Coated elements in 14 groups, including twin aspheric elements, a hybrid aspheric element, twin extra-low dispersion elements, and three high-refractive index elements.
Equivalent to a 21mm lens when mounted on an APS-C format camera, the Rokinon SP 14mm f/2.4 features a nine-blade diaphragm and a built-in petal-shaped lens hood.
Rokinon Xeen Cinema Lenses
Cinema lenses have become increasingly popular, thanks in part to the growing popularity of mirrorless video capture. The problem is that cinema lenses tend to be far pricier than many of the cameras with which they’re designed to be used.
Rokinon Xeen-series cinema lenses are affordable alternatives to high-grade, cinema-specific OEM lens systems. Features common to all Xeen-series manual-focus lenses include T-stops, internal focusing, color-matched lens coatings for tonal continuity, dual-calibrated focus and iris scales, common focus and iris gear ring positions, 114mm front diameters for sharing filter systems, matte boxes, lens accessories, 200° of focus rotation, nine- and eleven-blade diaphragms for natural-looking bokeh, and a click-less aperture ring for silent video capture.
Rokinon Xeen cinema lenses are available in Canon EF, Nikon F, MFT, Sony E, and PL lens mounts. In order of ascending focal length, the current Xeen lens lineup includes a Xeen 14mm T3.1, Xeen 16mm T2.6 , Xeen 20mm T1.9, Xeen 24mm T1.5, Xeen 35mm T1.5, Xeen 50mm T1.5, Xeen 85mm T1.5, and Xeen 135mm T2.2. All the Rokinon Xeen-series lenses above are designed for full-frame coverage.
You also have the option of purchasing select groups of Rokinon Xeen-series cinema lenses bundled with dedicated hard travel cases. There are currently three Xeen cinema lens bundles available, the first of which is the Cine Lens Bundle, which includes 14mm T3.1, 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5, and an 85mm T1.5 Xeen lenses for Canon EF, PL, MFT, Sony E, or Nikon F lens mounts.
The Xeen Cine 7 Lens Bundle includes 14mm T3.1, 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5, and 135mm T2.2 Xeen lenses for Sony E, Canon EF, MFT, Nikon F, Pl lens mounts.
The third option is the Xeen Cine DS Lens Bundle, which includes 20mm T1.9, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5, and 85mm T1.5 Xeen lenses for Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, or MFT lens mounts. Contact our sales department if you'd like to put together your own custom kit of other focal lengths.
