Really Right Stuff has just announced a wide-ranging update to its tripod lineup. Distinguished by the addition of the Mark 2 moniker, this series is composed of improved versions of seventeen different tripods for photo and video enthusiasts. These vary from the smaller TFC-14, which reaches 47.6" in height, all the way up to the TVC-34L, with a maximum height of 68.8". Models labeled "FC" have a fixed mounting plate or "apex," while those with "VC" in the name offer a larger Versa apex that accepts optional RRS accessories such as a quick column or leveling base.
Added to the Mark 2 revamp are several small features that make for better ergonomics and easier operation. The tripod's twist locks only need to be turned half as far as in previous models, thanks to the use of collets, allowing you to lock or release each leg segment much more quickly than before. RRS also claims improved weather resistance, because this redesign makes it harder for grit and debris to get into the locking mechanism. Three ¼"-20 sockets along the outside of the apex allow for a variety of accessories to be securely mounted, including a small ball head or quick-detach plates. Finally, the legs offer an air vent at the top for efficient operation when extending or collapsing the tripod, and have an improved knurling pattern that is said to "feel better" on your skin.
