Tamron has announced the telephoto zoom Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD (Model A047) lens for Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras—the first ever Tamron lens made specifically for the Nikon Z-mount camera system.
The lens is currently available to Sony E-mount mirrorless shooters. B&H took a closer look at the lens in this video.
Like its Sony E-mount twin, this Nikon Z version of the 70-300 is very small and lightweight when compared to lenses of the same or similar focal length range; currently, it’s the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless telephoto zoom lens, measuring 5.9" long when retracted and weighing 20.5 oz. The lens is moisture resistant and a BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating cuts down on unwanted reflections and flare. The lens can be used with the dedicated Tamron Lens Utility software to keep it up to date with firmware and future performance enhancements.
The lens features 15 elements in 10 groups with a LD (Low Dispersion) element designed to reduce axial chromatic aberrations and other optical anomalies. The lens’s RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) enables precise autofocus control with minimal noise—essential for video shooting.
