Lightweight and versatile, the 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD for APS-C Canon and Nikon DSLRs is Tamron's answer for those looking for a walkaround lens. Beyond the 27-405mm equivalent zoom range (28.8-432mm on Canon), this lens offers a Piezo Drive (PZD) internal ultrasonic autofocus motor for smooth, fast focusing, as well as Vibration Compensation to minimize the effects of camera shake. Improving overall usability is a minimum focus distance of just 19.3", providing a magnification ratio of 1:3.8 for close-up imaging, while a Broad-Band Anti-Reflection (BBAR) coating combats glare. Additionally, the front element has a fluorine coating that is water and oil repellent.

What is different? What "updates" have been done?
Other than slight design and color changes, as well as different texture on the grip, the front surface of the lens is also coated with a fluorine coating that is water- and oil-repellent, making the lens much easier to clean and is less vulnerable to damage from dirt, dust, moisture, and fingerprints. According to the MTF chart for both lenses, there does not appear to be any change of the optical formula. While the old lens was designed for Canon, Nikon, and Sony mounts, the new lens currently only lists the Canon and Nikon variants of the lens.
