Analog pioneer Arturia is announcing the newest member of its Brute analog hardware family, DrumBrute Impact, a cost-effective, compact analog drum machine. Aimed at musicians and producers who crave raw power and monstrous tone, it features new sounds designed from the ground up, an all-new Color layer for sound manipulation, drum-optimized distortion, performable controls, and the company’s highly regarded sequencer.

Arturia DrumBrute Impact Analog Drum Machine

The DrumBrute Impact’s compact form factor, with eight responsive finger-drumming pads, makes it easier for beat makers to work in small spaces and is ideal for live-performance setups. The unit features ten high-energy, punchy analog drum sounds (including new FM sounds), each with its own independent sequencer track, and described by the company as follows.

  • KICK: Pounding bass drum with nice attack transients and variable pitch and decay
  • SNARE 1: A big-bodied snare with great, editable snap and decay
  • SNARE 2: A trashy snare with a hint of clap, with adjustable tone and decay
  • TOM HIGH: Simple but powerful high tom with sweepable pitch
  • TOM LOW: Pants-shaking low tom that can get so low you could use it as a second kick
  • CYMBAL: Zingy, metallic crash with adjustable decay
  • COWBELL: A simple but effective percussive cowbell
  • CLOSED HAT: Hard-hitting hat with variable tone that also effects the Open Hat
  • OPEN HAT: Open the hat sound with changeable decay and a mute controlled by the Closed Hat
  • FM DRUM: A percussive synth voice with adjustable carrier pitch, decay, FM amount, and mod pitch

In addition to independent volume controls, each drum (aside from the cowbell) features a selection of unique parameters that vary its tone, pitch, shape, or synth properties, allowing you to dial-up impressive sounds quickly and mix on the fly. The Color layer can be activated channel by channel, or programmed using the sequencer to create dramatic changes to the drum sounds, in real time. True to its nature, DrumBrute Impact also features drum-optimized distortion on the output bus, with a simple gain knob and an on-off switch.

The DrumBrute Impact comes with the original DrumBrute, 64-step, song-capable sequencer. Simple, fun, and intuitive to use, it lets you create complex polyrhythms or straight, pounding rhythms. It offers performance controls that enable you to add Swing, inject some Randomness, glitch it up with a Step Repeater, quickly spice up patterns with the Roller, add Accents, and even record Unquantized, should you wish.

For a complete analog experience, the unit offers Clock in and out to sync with vintage or modular gear, and MIDI in and out to sync up with contemporary synths and outboard. There is also a USB interface for seamless integration with your DAW and the Arturia MCC software. In addition to the Master output, the DrumBrute Impact provides four individual audio outputs for Kick, Snares, Hats, and FM Sound, great for post-processing or multi-tracking applications.
