Astell&Kern, a company whose name is synonymous with high-fidelity mastering-quality products, has announced several new models of earphones and headphones, including the Layla II, Roxanne II, Angie II, AK T8iE, and AK T1P.
The Layla II is a part of the Siren Series, universal-fit, in-ear-monitors and is made in collaboration with Jerry Harvey Audio. When used with an Astell&Kern playback device, these in-ear monitors allow you to hear the music the way the recording artist and mix engineer intended. With a flat frequency response of 10 Hz to 23 kHz, the earphones utilize a sophisticated crossover network featuring 4th-order crossover filters that feed the FreqPhase waveguide and new proprietary soundrIVe quad drivers, which total 12 drivers per earpiece. The enclosure is machined from a solid block of titanium with a carbon-fiber logo plate insert. The earphones offer variable bass output that is adjustable from the cable and offer +10 dB of boost between 10 and 100 Hz. Layla II ships with a balanced cable, an unbalanced cable, five pairs of ear tips, a cleaning tool, a screwdriver to adjust the bass response, and a hard shell case.
Like the Layla II, the Roxanne II is also part of the Siren series and is designed as a mastering reference tool with a high-frequency driver optimized for top-end extension with minimal distortion. The mid-driver is ruler-flat from 10 Hz to 5 kHz, while the low-frequency driver delivers deep bass with virtually no distortion. Roxanne II utilizes the soundrIVe technology with triple quad drivers (12 drivers) per earphone and the FreqPhase waveguide that corrects the time and phase of multiple drivers to ensure that each driver’s signal arrives within 0.01 milliseconds, resulting in a phase coherent IEM.
Angie II is also part of the Siren series but utilizes dual-low, dual-mid, and quad-high (8 drivers) soundrIVe drivers. Like the Layla II and Roxanne II, the Angie II is machined from a solid block of titanium and features the same FreqPhase technology to ensure a phase coherent signal. It offers a frequency response of 10 Hz to 23 kHz and includes the variable bass output with a bass boost of +10 from 10 to 100 Hz. Angie II ships with both a balanced and unbalanced cable, ear tips, tools, and a hard travel case.
The AK T8iE was designed in cooperation with Beyerdynamic and is the first high-end in-ear model with Tesla Technology inside. The single dynamic moving-coil driver offers an extremely wide frequency response with crisp bass, well-balanced mids, and crystal-clear highs. The Tesla technology offers an extremely high magnetic flux density with a ring magnet to ensure balanced, undistorted, transparent, and neutral sound reproduction. The AK T8iE ships with a balanced and unbalanced cable, ear tips, and a leather carrying case.
The AK T1P are headphones that were designed in cooperation with Beyerdynamic and feature the same Tesla Technology, only in a larger format. The semi-open headphones utilize a single dynamic moving-coil driver to deliver a frequency response of 5 Hz to 50 kHz and are capable of being driven by any playback system, including portable devices including the high-resolution players from Astell&Kern.
