Audio-Technica has introduced a new line of durable, subminiature BP899 omnidirectional and BP898 cardioid condenser lavalier microphones with a variety of termination options for wired or wireless use. The microphones’ wide dynamic range and tolerance for high sound-pressure levels ensure maximum intelligibility and clean, accurate reproduction for vocalists, presenters, lecturers, stage and television talent, and worship leaders.
The BP899 and BP898 are designed to stand up to adverse conditions on stage or in the field. They feature a permanently attached, urethane-elastomer cable with a double-spiral shield wire that provides ultimate flexibility, strength, and resistance to abrasion and moisture. The microphone capsule is housed in a rugged metal structure to shield the electronic circuitry from external electromagnetic noise. The signal line inside the cable is made of a highly durable CuSn (copper and tin) alloy that greatly enhances corrosion resistance and increases longevity.
With a low-profile design (a mere 5.3mm in diameter), these lavalier mics are easy to mount and conceal, ideal for applications requiring minimum visibility. The clothing clip offers 16 distinct angle adjustments over a 360° range along with two strain-relief points that isolate the mic from mechanical noise transferred over the cable. Two included windscreens feature a clasp that secures the windscreen to the mic and prevents it from accidentally falling off, which can be crucial during active use of the microphone for performances or sports.
Terminations include: cH-style screw-down 4-pin connector with an AT8545 power module for wired use, cH-style and cW-style screw-down 4-pin connectors for use with Audio-Technica wireless transmitters, and TA4F-type connector for use with Shure wireless transmitters. There is also an “unterminated” option.
If up-close and directional miking is needed, the BP898’s cardioid capsule provides a focused pickup with pronounced proximity effect at close range, which increases the low-frequency response of the user’s voice. The BP898 is offered in black only.
The BP899 omnidirectional condenser lavalier is best suited for use in situations where the mic needs to be positioned at a greater distance or a less-focused pickup is desired. It features an open-diaphragm design with an acoustically transparent, moisture- and sweat-repellent protective mesh for maximum frequency response and lasting performance.
The included resonance cap can be mounted on the capsule to provide even greater intelligibility, while directing sweat and other moisture away from the mic. Low-sensitivity models are also available for theater use. The BP899 models are offered in black and beige for theater.
