HIFIMAN is a brand with serious HIFI street cred, even garnering praise for previous IEMs (not an easy feat in the world of in-ear headphones). Now, with models like the RE800 and the RE2000, the company is jumping deeper into the waters of in-ear designs with a big splash—or rather, a tiny, 24-carat gold splash.
Yes, both models feature 24-carat, gold-plated housings that have been electroplated to further enhance their lustrous, stylish sheen. Moving onto the tech inside, you’ll find 9.2mm dynamic-topology drivers in both units. These drivers make use of a proprietary process in which a nano-particle coating is applied to all the complementing parts. When combined, the different physical properties of each component gel in such a way that you get all the benefits of dynamic-driver design and none of the drawbacks. The result? An impressively even frequency response, a lack of distortion, and a full soundstage.
The RE800s are in-ear headphones poised to please the most hi of the fi. However, if you’re looking for a design with higher-grade drivers and an even more stylish 24-carot, gold-plated housing—one that plays better with headphone amps, to boot—then by all means, investigate the RE2000s. Both are now available at B&H.
