Korg Announces New Bass and Multi-Voice Desktop Synthesizers

0Share

Recognizing the needs of small studios, production suites, and compact touring setups, Korg has released two new desktop analog synthesizers, the Volca Nubass and the Minilogue XD Module. Both boast an assortment of powerful functions in a space-saving form factor, making them ideal for use with DAWs, sequencers, and controllers in a variety of workflows. Additionally, they’re supplied with impressive software bundles that include iZotope’s Ozone Elements mastering suite, Propellerhead’s Reason Lite DAW, and sound modules from UVI, AAS, and Korg.

As you can tell by its name, the Volca Nubass is all about the bass, but in a new way. Imagine the greatness of a classic 303 bass synth merged with innovative tube technology, then you’ll start to understand the essence of the Volca Nubass. At the core of the Volca Nubass is a Nutube vacuum tube, which has separate triodes to produce the oscillator wave (sawtooth or square) and handle the drive circuit of the sub-oscillator. So, you get the desirable harmonic properties of a real vacuum tube in two places, plus a transistor ladder low-pass filter for dynamic tonal manipulation!

Thanks to a 16-step sequencer with pattern chaining, motion sequencing, real-time editing, and special transpose, accent, and slide functions, you can create an array of nuanced, exciting tracks that can be synced with Korg groove machines and monitored through your headphones or the built-in speaker. Power the Volca Nubass for up to eight hours with the included AA batteries, or get the KA-350 AC adapter (available separately) for extended periods of operation.

The Minilogue XD Module packs the sonic capabilities of the Minilogue XD polyphonic analog synthesizer into a convenient tabletop-friendly enclosure. Use it as a stand-alone 4-voice synth, or chain it to a Minilogue XD running OS 1.10 or later for a total of eight voices! For those who aren’t already familiar with the original Minilogue XD, there are some important features to know. First, the Minilogue XD Module offers two VCOs and a multi-engine capable of producing noise, VPM, or open-source user oscillators. Following that, you get a 2-pole filter, two envelope generators, a voltage-controlled amplifier, and an LFO.

Take your Minilogue sounds to the next level with the integrated 32-bit (floating point) DSP, which delivers simultaneous modulation effects, reverb, and delay. Use the SDK (Software Development Kit) to construct your own custom oscillators and user effects, or utilize programs made by other users. The built-in step sequencer empowers you with real-time recording and step-entry programming for its 16 steps. Edit individual steps, record motion sequences, and even use the step buttons as a 16-note keyboard. The Minilogue XD Module not only has a host of buttons and knobs, but also sports a joystick that allows adjustment of different parameters for each program.
