Built according to the original production documents and schematics, the U 47 fet is a “transistorized” version of Neumann’s classic U 47 tube vocal microphone. It boasts the same K 47 condenser capsule, but thanks to its FET design, provides higher SPL handling than its tube-driven inspiration, allowing it to be used on louder and more aggressive sources. Recording engineers since the 1960s have found the U 47 fet at home outside kick drums and in front of loud amplifiers.
Like the original, the Collector’s Edition re-release gives you a selectable low-cut filter at 140 Hz, as well as a selectable -10 dB pad. If you need further attenuation, a -6 dB switch can be used to further attenuate the output before it hits your mic preamp. The Collector’s Edition includes a wooden box, as well as a certificate of authenticity with the microphone’s serial number.
