Novation has announced the rollout of the next generation of Launchkey MIDI keyboard controllers with the Novation Launchkey 88 MK4, modernizing and improving the build and performance of the well-regarded series of keyboards.
The 88 MK4 comes with some impressive new features like Scale Mode, which allows you to lock your keyboard into your choice of thirty different scales so you’ll never play a wrong note—you can even map every note to just the white keys. Used in conjunction with Fixed Chord Mode and the new Chord Maps function, creating unique and emotive chord progressions is easier than ever.
The Launchkey 88 MK4 also introduces some updated hardware, including a more robust custom designed semi-weighted waterfall-style keybed, patented velocity-sensitive FSR drum pads with polyphonic aftertouch and radial sensors, a new OLED display for navigation and chord recognition, and USB-C connectivity.
Like the MK3, the Launchkey still supports arpeggio modes and transport functions, along with a MIDI out for controlling hardware synths, samplers, and drum machines, and split mode to play two instruments either in two zones or sending two MIDI channels across all 88 keys to two different channels or devices.
Novation included quite a bundle of software with the keyboard as well, including Ableton Live 12 Lite, Cubase LE, Melodics, and a series of software synthesizers, dynamics processors, and multi-sample drum plugins so you can get started making music right away.
