A slew of new audio-for-video products, including lavaliers, camera-mount mics, and mobile kits, Sennheiser’s latest releases are made to give content creators the tools they need to capture great sound no matter what they shoot with, easily and reliably. Since Sennheiser is renowned for its high-quality professional microphones and wireless systems, this new gear is undeniably good news for vloggers, YouTubers, mobile videographers, and more.
At the core of the new Sennheiser lineup, you’ll find lapel (lavalier) mics and shotgun-style mics. The XS Lav comes in two variants—one with 3.5mm TRRS and one with USB Type-C—that both feature the same omnidirectional capsule, 6.6' cable, mic clip, windscreen, and storage pouch. Whether your mobile device or computer has a headphone jack or a USB Type-C port, there’s a compatible XS Lav waiting for you.
Due to the success of last year’s MKE 200 ultracompact directional mic, Sennheiser decided to apply its popular characteristics in an update to the ubiquitous MKE 400 camera-mount shotgun microphone. As a result, the redesigned MKE 400 sports the visual style, enhanced construction, and detachable locking TRS and TRRS cables found on the MKE 200 along with fresh improvements such as a three-stage gain control, a refined low-cut filter, a headphone monitoring port with volume control, integrated wind protection, and a supplied furry windshield. Get a closer look at the MKE 400 in this hands-on review.
To simplify the process of configuring an audio and video rig, Sennheiser offers several mobile kits, each with a microphone, accessories, a Manfrotto PIXI mini tripod, and a smartphone clamp with a cold-shoe mount. The mobile kits are available as bundles with MKE 400 or MKE 200 camera-mount mics, the XS Lav USB-C lapel mic, or the XSW-D Portable Lavalier Set wireless system. Outfitted with the appropriate mic, the mini tripod, and the shoe-equipped clamp, smartphone-based AV production just got a lot better.
If you want to upgrade your existing setup or stock your production bag with backup supplies, Sennheiser’s accessories are readily available—external wind protection for the XS Lav, MKE 200, and MKE 400, 3.5mm cables for the MKE 200, MKE 400, and XSW-D, and the previously mentioned tripod and smartphone clamp as a combo. Additionally, there’s the CL 35 USB-C, a locking 3.5mm TRS to USB Type-C coiled cable that enables direct connection of an MKE 200, MKE 400, or XSW-D RX 35 receiver to the USB Type-C port on a compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer.
