Sony has announced the new ECM-W5 Wireless Microphone Kit tailored for small professional video production workflows that need flexible recording solutions to capture clear audio.
The ECM-W5 is the next generation of the well-regarded ECM-W3, now packed with a bevy of upgrades including 64GB of built-in storage with simultaneous in-camera WAV file recording, 32-bit float recording capability, a high-res AMOLED display, timecode sync, an extended battery life to 11 hours, and more.
The ECM-W5 is capable of High-Resolution Audio recording up to 96 kHz/24-bit, but it truly shines when working in a Sony ecosystem: record 48 kHz/32-bit float direct into a video file when using a compatible Sony camera for superior flexibility in the editing stage and monitor your audio cable-free through a pair of compatible Sony Bluetooth LE Audio wireless headphones. Monitoring input gain can be set to audio to prevent distortion or switched to manual mode with a range of -12 to +12 dB along with a noise cut and low-cut toggle.
Everything you need to get started is all in one package with two microphone transmitters (TX) and one receiver (RX) in a charging case, a shoe adaptor, windscreens, and more. The ECM-W5 is expandable to up to four transmitters (extras are available separately), which feature 3.5mm mini jacks for external mic input like lavaliers. It’s even capable of recording binaural audio with a compatible microphone!
