VOX Releases Modeling Amp and Tuning Pedal

0Share

Lugging around one VOX amp, much less eleven, would be a hellish enterprise for guitar players in the olden days. So it’s a good thing VOX is releasing the Cambridge 50, a tube-powered modeling amp that gives you eleven classic VOX tones in a single combo-amp housing—a housing that weighs fewer than 20 lb! Combine this relatively lightweight VOX Cambridge 50 with the company’s first-ever tuning pedal, and you’ll have an excellent tone that’s always in tune.

Want the sound of an AC30? You’re in luck. How about the sound of one of the high-gain amps? You got it. The ability to switch from one to the other with the press of a button or the tap of a toe? That’s pretty impressive—and that’s all possible with Cambridge 50.

At the core of the Cambridge 50 sits the Nutube, a microcosm of vacuum-tube technology; the Nutube isn’t an emulation as much as it is an evolution: the same principles are at work here, giving you the same tone and the same feel of a tube amplifier. The only difference is the size of the Nutube, and its durability: you won’t need to swap it out anytime soon.

Even though the combo provides one Celestion 12" speaker, the response of each emulation’s individual cabinet has been captured, thanks to VET (Virtual Element Technology). On the amp itself you’ll find a multitude of effects, including chorus, flanger, delay, spring verb, and more. There’s even a tap tempo control!

This amp may deliver eleven classic tones, but it exists in the modern age, so you’ll find all the customary appointments, such as a USB connection for recording directly to digital, and included software that expands the tone and functionality of the amp. Practice silently over the 3.5mm headphone jack, and jam along to music, thanks to the auxiliary input.

However you do it, you can do it in tune, thanks to the VOX VXT-1, a strobe pedal tuner with multiple viewing modes, quite a few tuning modes, and incredible accuracy (+/- 0.02 cents!). Whether you need to tune for DADGAG or standard, whether you prefer Strobe, Vertical, or Diamond viewing, the VXT-1 has you covered, all without influencing your tone—the true-bypass circuitry ensures your tone remains pristine. Heck, this tuner can even power other pedals through its DC output, provided you’re wall-powering the tuner itself.
