Continuing its aim to innovate in the camera support market, Manfrotto has announced its new line of 3-axis handheld motorized gimbal stabilizers and accessories for mirrorless or DSLR cameras to produce smooth-motion shots for a variety of productions such as vlogging, run-and-gun productions, and ENG. The new kits include the Gimbal 220 Kit, the Gimbal 220 Pro Kit with follow focus, the Gimbal 460 Pro Kit with follow focus and remote controller, and the GimBoom carbon fiber extension arm that works with the new gimbal kits.
First, the base Gimbal 220 Kit features a gimbal that supports small and mirrorless cameras up to 4.85 lb and includes powerful 3-axis motors, an LCD touchscreen for easy configuration and operation, a multi-function control knob, and 3-axis motor locks to get the gimbal balanced and up and running in mere seconds. Its detachable arm can be removed to quickly switch between single-handle mode and underslung mode for a variety of shooting options. Using either the touchscreen, Manfrotto smartphone app, or a separately available Bluetooth controller, you can utilize a number of modes for different effects and motion shots, such as Inception mode, time-lapse, Selfie mode, and Portrait mode. You can also adjust various camera settings such as ISO, white balance, and exposure when the camera is connected via the USB Type-C port. The 220 gimbal features a built-in battery that can provide up to seven hours of operation, and it's charged using a USB cable.
The Gimbal 220 Pro Kit includes a follow focus motor with a brushless motor and a lens gear that mounts using an included rod-mount kit for precise camera focus and real-time tracking shots. It can be controlled using the multi-function control knob and touchscreen with a USB cable plugged into the gimbal. Each 220 kit also includes a quick release camera mounting plate, USB shutter release control cables for a variety of cameras, a mini tripod, and an underslung handgrip.
The Gimbal 460 Pro Kit sets itself apart from the 220 model by supporting a larger camera load up to 10.14 lb, having a battery life of up to 12 hours, and having two USB outputs to control both a follow focus or zoom at the same time as the shutter release. It supports all the same operations as the 220 model, such as touchscreen operation, time-lapse, Selfie mode, and Inception mode, but it also includes an external hardware Bluetooth controller, so it can be controlled wirelessly. The remote has its own accelerometer and can control all the motions of the camera and the lens, as well as the start/stop function of the camera. The kit also includes a follow focus and gear with a rod mounting kit, USB cables for power and shutter control, a mini tripod, a heavy-duty underslung handgrip, and a quick release mount.
Finally, the GimBoom carbon fiber extension arm can be used with all of the above gimbals by mounting on the bottom of the gimbal handle with its 1/4"-20 screw, adding another dimension to your shooting options. The three-section arm supports loads up to 14.3 lb and can extend from 20" in its collapsed position to a maximum length of 3.8' to get those hard-to-reach shots. Its lightweight carbon fiber construction lets you perform high-angle, low-angle, and jib-style handheld shots without adding too much weight to your rig.
