Here at B&H Photo, we are happy to offer the new lighting units from Litepanels, continuing our long tradition of supporting LED lighting. Litepanels has long been an innovator of LED lighting products, producing some of the first array-style fixtures and then innovating with LED Fresnel fixtures. The new Astra lights continue that same commitment to LED lighting, with the Astra 3X and 6X LED array light fixtures, available as 3X Daylight, 3X Bi-Color, 6X Daylight, or 6X Bi-Color fixtures.
As you might have guessed, the 3X is three times brighter than the original 1 x 1 fixture, even though the size of the fixtures is similar. This same logic applies to the 6X, which is six times brighter than the original 1 x 1. Your choice—three or six times the brightness in the same package.
This technological advance does come at a price, or rather at a savings, because you don’t need to lug around additional fixtures and stands to get the kind of output that you need, nor do you sacrifice color or functionality for the increased brightness—the output from these fixtures is rated at 95 CRI daylight / 98 CRI tungsten. Both the 3X and the 6X are available as daylight-only or Bi-Color fixtures, and they are flicker free throughout the dimming range, from 0 to 100%, so they will fit right into your workflow.
The Sola fixtures are daylight balanced, 0 to 100% dimmable, Fresnel lighting units that use LEDs for the light source instead of a tungsten or HMI bulb. The advantages here are obvious, but I’ll point them out, anyway. You get the low power draw and heat output of an LED source combined with the Fresnel’s spot/flood adjustment, single shadow, and flattering output from a single source that you can control and with which you can make hard cuts. Available as a Sola 4+ or a Sola 6+, each is an update to the previous version of the fixture, but with notable improvements. The Sola 4+ is features a 4" Fresnel lens and is equivalent to a 575 HMI, while drawing only 53W and it features an internal ballast built into the fixture, which creates a smaller footprint and easier on-set experience. The Sola 6+ features a 6" Fresnel and is equivalent to a 1200W HMI, while drawing only 104W of power. As with the 4+, the 6+ also features an internal ballast that saves you space on the set.
So, looking at the new offerings from Litepanels, which features improvements to the light output in terms of brightness and CRI, you can see why B&H is excited to be carrying these light fixtures, and why you should check them out.
