Expanding its streamlined camera lineup, RED Digital Cinema has added the RED DRAGON-X to its DSMC2 options. The DRAGON-X updates the popular, all-around DRAGON 5K S35 sensor with IPP2 optimization, higher frame rates, and faster bit rates.
The integration of IPP2 (Image Processing Pipeline 2) in-camera provides greater HDR and imaging control in the field, offering a truer sense of what you're capturing, and saving time in post-production. IPP2 processing features improved color management, better highlight handling, and industry-standard color settings for a smoother post experience.
Offering Super 35-format capture, the DRAGON-X records full-format 5K REDCODE RAW at rates up to 96 fps; it also records up to 4K Apple ProRes or Avid DNx, as you prefer. Slow-motion recording options include full 2K up to 240 fps and up to 300 fps at 2.4:1 in 2K. Capture data rates at speeds up to 300 MB/s when using the DRAGON-X with 480 or 960GB RED MINI-MAGs.
The compact RED DRAGON-X's DSMC2 design features a built-in media bay, cable-free monitoring choices, and wireless remote control. The body-only option requires a separately available lens mount, enabling you to avail yourself of a wide variety of cinema-style lenses. If you like Canon glass and would like to start out with a more complete package, choose the DRAGON-X Camera Kit with a Canon EF mount, a 4.7" RED Touch LCD, batteries, Outrigger Handle, one 480GB MINI-MAG, and more. Current RED SCARLET-W owners will have the option to upgrade to the DSMC2-BRAIN with the DRAGON-X sensor and, should DRAGON-X users want to move up the chain, they will be able to upgrade to GEMINI, HELIUM, or MONSTRO configurations.
