Teradek Goes the Distance with Its Orbit PTZ Wireless Kit

Teradek, well known for its wireless video transmitters and receivers, has turned its attention to PTZ cameras. The new Orbit transmitter/receiver system enables you to control and view footage wirelessly from select PTZ cameras from Panasonic, Sony, Bolin Technology, Ross Video, Newtek, Lumens, and Marshall Electronics. The Orbit PTZ 4K supports 4K video transmission (both DCI and UHD) up to 1,000' with less than 1ms of latency, while the Orbit PTZ HD supports transmitting 1080p video up to 1,000' with less than 1ms latency.

Both transmitter/receiver kits feature SDI and HDMI inputs and outputs, and the transmitter has an SDI output (supporting HDMI to SDIcross-conversion) for local viewing. What makes these items suitable for PTZ camera work is that they support VISCA and Panasonic AW PTZ camera control protocols, which allow you to not only view your camera’s video wirelessly from 1,000' away, but also to control your PTZ cameras wirelessly. No more worrying about running cables, and the 1,000' line-of-sight range is more than the length of several football fields, which would normally be a heck of a lot of cable to lay.

The transmitter is designed to mount on the bottom of your PTZ camera and has a 3/8"-16 threaded hole for mounting. You can power it from a 7- to 28-volt DC source such as the included power supply, or a battery. The transmitter also has a power output port that allows you to power compatible PTZ cameras, minimizing the cables and power sources you need. The receiver has a built-in OLED screen with menu joystick, and interfaces with select Sony, Panasonic, and HuddleCam PTZ controllers. The transmitter supports multicasting to up to 6 receivers for video, and you can operate up to 6 transmitters in the same area, allowing you to operate more than on PTZ camera remotely. Built-in AES-256 encryption with RSA-1024 helps keep your footage safe from interlopers. So, whether you are shooting HD or 4K, Teradek has a PTZ wireless video system for you.
