Youngnuo simplifies choosing between a daylight-balanced or variable color temperature with a pair of on-camera lights. With either the daylight-balanced YOYN300IIIW, or the tungsten/daylight variable YOYN300III, you get a powerful light with surprising capabilities. The daylight fixture’s 300 LEDs draw only 18 watts, while pumping out 2280 lumens at maximum brightness, so your batteries will last a good long while. Plus, the light output has a CRI rating of 95 or better, providing good color reproduction. The output features a beam spread of 55°, which though not what you would call flood, isn’t extremely spotty, and if you want to widen the beam spread or soften the output, an included diffusion filter is just the ticket.
In addition to power and quality of light, these two light fixtures feature quite a bit of user-friendly functionality. They power from an L-series type battery although, sadly, one is not included. Each light will run for approximately 2 hours on a 5200 mAh battery. While you can control the light manually, there are two ways to remotely control and adjust the light. The included 8-channel IR remote control allows you to control up to eight different lights, or group multiple lights to have the same settings. You can also accomplish this feat with your smartphone by using the downloadable app. The included mini plate allows you to stand your light on top of a flat, level surface, and the included cold-shoe adapter enables mounting the light via your camera’s accessory shoe. A handle is included so you can handhold the light, and barndoors with built-in intensifiers provide spill control for your lighting. So, pick daylight or pick variable color temp.
