Z CAM Introduces ZRAW Support in E2 Series Cameras and ZRAW VideoSuite Software

Expanding the list of proprietary Raw formats such as ARRI Raw, Canon EOS Raw, Apple ProRes, RED Raw, Blackmagic Raw, and ProRes Raw, Z CAM has released its own Raw format called ZRAW in the form of a new firmware release. ZRAW is supported on the E2 and E2C cameras, and also the E2-F6 6K, E2-S6 6K, and the E2-F8 8K camera lines. The firmware update provides support for 4096 x 2160 at 30 fps initially.

Just as RED, Blackmagic Design, and Apple have their own software and workflows for their Raw footage, ZRAW requires the use of Z CAM's VideoSuite for Windows 10. This means there is no integration with your favorite NLE, so you'll have to have a Windows 10 machine to convert ZRAW footage before importing. VideoSuite will support converting ZRAW footage up to 4K30 and will output DNxHR or uncompressed YUV footage at 4:2:2 or 4:4:4, and it will output H.265 footage at 4:2:2. VideoSuite's new ZRAW features also include multiple denoise levels and a color grading tool using ZRAW's linear color space. It's also important to note that when recording in ZRAW, proxy recording is disabled on the camera, so recording via iOS or via the HDMI output can provide the proxy files needed to support ZRAW footage.

Other updates in this firmware version include a monitor preview LUT for x33 cube format, JPEG still image capture, VFR in increments of one-fps, native ISO control, and parade view. It also fixes a timecode external sync bug, it improves general performance, and adds more card format compatibility. Use the Z CAM Controller software for Mac, iPad, or Windows to download and install the firmware update onto your camera.

Look for the free firmware download on Z CAM's website for ZRAW support, bugfixes, and all the new features. Do you have experience with Z CAM's professional line of cameras? Great concept but I can't get Zraw VideoSuite to work on my Windows computer. When I try to open the software I get the error message "MSVCR100.dll was not found." Zcam's tech support was unable to solve the problem despite repeated attempts to reinstall the software, and there is no info on the web about this issue.
