Shopping for Soft Shutter Release Buttons
Many photographers choose to upgrade their cameras with soft shutter release buttons. Despite the name, these "soft" buttons come from a variety of different materials, including metals and hard plastics. These photography accessories are "soft" because of their soft impact on the camera when you release the shutter. You can add these buttons to the firing mechanism of your camera. You can chose from a variety of different soft release buttons to accommodate your various camera models.
Benefits of Soft Shutter Releases
You can use these buttons for any number of reasons, but for the most part, it comes down to personal comfort. These camera shutter buttons provide a compression barrier between your finger and the firing mechanism. The raised nature of these buttons spreads the pressure over a greater surface area, giving you more control when you activate the shutter. Greater control translates to more stability and clearer, sharper photographs.
Types of Shutter Release Buttons
While you glue some shutter release buttons to the top of the existing buttons, others are replacements for the existing buttons on cameras. Some are convex, while others are concave. You'll find buttons made from a variety of materials, including enamel, plastic, metal, or even wood.
Adhesive vs. Screw-On Buttons
Although screw-on buttons provide stability and reliability, you can only use screw-on soft shutter releases if your camera has a threaded shutter release. Examples of digital cameras that feature threaded shutter releases include the Nikon Df, Olympus OM-D, and a few others. If your camera doesn't have a threaded shutter release, you can still choose adhesive soft release buttons.
