I bought this for use on an A9 with the SAL300F28. It does a fine with all focus modes including all tracking modes. The one adjustment you need to be aware of is a small amount of shutter lag. You must fractionally anticipate the movement of a fast moving subject, I.e. a bird, because shooting begins a fraction of a second after you press the shutter. If you do not, the subject may be out of your frame. For static subjects, it is excellent . You will be able to salvage your Sony A mount focus motor lenses for use with E mount full frame cameras.

the adapter would not allow auto focus operation, only manual focus. l have 9 a-mount lenses from minolta & sigma and none had auto focus. lenses are basically useless without auto focus

Bought this unit for using a few old Minolta Lens (all screw-drive type) in my collection. It has been worked fine with all my lens (28-75mm f2.8, 70-300mm f4-5.6). Understand it only works manual mode with these old lens, but it communicate/bridge very well between lens and camera body (a7II). Image quality turned out great for still shot. It might need more skill to handle the video work well because of manual focus controls. It make all my old A-Mount lens workable again. Highly recommended.

With this LE-EA3 adapter on an a6300, and with a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM (Sony A-Mount of course) mounted on the adapter, would I get autofocus? The Sigma has an internal autofocus motor; it's not screw-driven.
Hello, B&H sells two adapters that let you put A mount lenses on E mount camera body. One of them (LE-EA 3) has a motor that will drive autofocus. The Sigma 17-50mm lens is a autofocus lens, so the two paired together will do autofocus. Now if you pair the LE-EA3 with a manual lens, to my knowledge you will not have autofocus. Hope this helps.

Will this LAEA3 adapter cause a vignette when mounting the Sony DT 55-300mm lens to the Sony A7ii? I previously purchased a much cheaper adapter and my photos have a vignette, I'm hoping it's the adapter and not the lens.
The Sony DT 55-300mm lens is an APS-C format lens and has a smaller image circle than a full frame lens. There is vignetting because of the lens.

IS it true that this adapter is enough for using the 50mm Planar T SSM on a sony A7 III? will the auto focus work fine for photo and video? will i have any drawbacks for using it?
I can't remember if Ssm is the autofocus motor or not. if it is it will work fine but it might hunt in lowlight. I use my adapter for my Tamron 150 to 600 and the lens focuses fine in the daytime but I haven't gotten a chance to track birds in flight with it yet. If you really depend on fast, reliable autofocus then I'd go with the e mount 50mm from Zeiss or the cheap Sony 50 if you don't need 1.4
