Westcott 5140 overview

  • 1Description

Multi-light shooting has become increasingly popular if not standard at weddings and events, and with camera manufacturers upping their high ISO performance, the flash units needed are increasingly smaller. The Speedlite ProGrip from Westcott makes off camera lighting a snap.

Its ergonomic pistol grip design is not only comfortable in the hand, but is specifically designed to accommodate both flash and radio receivers. It's also balanced and sturdy enough to support various Westcott modifiers, including The Triple Threat, Micro Apollo and PocketBoxes, as well as standard umbrellas. The female 1/4"-20 female thread on the ProGrip's base offers stand or grip gear mounting options.

Speedlite ProGrip is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good I bought this to use during receptions... I often found myself just hold my speedlight off camera anyway, so I figured that I give this grip a shot. It really does make it easier to hold the flash off camera. I haven't connected it to a light stand (nor do I intend to), but I suppose it's better to have the option than not. Umbrellas fit nicely although I have used it with a large Rogue Flashbender far more as it would be too unwieldy to handle while shooting at a reception unless you have your assistant hold it. Overall, it's nice and light, but I wouldn't mind sacrificing a few ounces if it were made a more robust material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Device I like that I have 2 positions to mount the flash. It is very comfortable to hand hold either an umbrella or a soft box. I can choose to shoot through an umbrella or turn it around and bounce the flash into the umbrella. I also mounted a quick connect tripod mount on the bottom of this unit and installed a ball head on one of my light stands. That allows me to put this unit on a stand and position it in any direction I want. The light stand allows me to put it fairly high as well. I love it!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting idea I use it as a way to get flash off the camera when shooting an event flash shoe screws loosen and fall out while in camera bag - this is annoying and time consuming while you're looking for the screws and top plate to hold the flash

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect I do like that idea of being able to mount my flash and pocket wizard on the same easy to hold handle. Its a no brainer when you ask someone to act as lightstand. However, when mounted on a ligthstand through the brass nut on the bottom of the handle, there is play from side to side that makes it feel just shy of quality. The brass nut is not seated properly. Tight should be tight with no play. Other than that its good enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from durable! descent quality I got this to use with various light modifiers in my left hand as I moved around events and shot with my right hand. When I added transceiver, flash and modifier it got cumbersome and also blocked my vision. Perhaps for an assistant with 2 free hands it can be a nimble tool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product This came in handy with the Bolt Vb-22 flash. I mounted the yn-622 receiver and flash to the grip on top of a light stand. Great product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portable Better than a lightstand when you need that little pop of light outside. Will use it for wedding with my little softbox.
