The EN-EL14a Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery from Nikon is a replacement or spare battery for select Nikon cameras. Lithium-ion batteries will not suffer from the adverse memory effects that are normally associated with other battery types.

With the two new Nikon EN-EL14a rechargeable Lithium-Ion Batteries, the Nikon camera will continue to serve a younger photographer in learning how to capture great images. As always, thank you B&H for providing great products and service.
After looking at a number of different batteries, I ultimately settled on the Nikon branded EN-EL 14a battery, due to the proven reliability and longevity of them. While I have used 3rd party batteries in the past, even ones listed as compatible would occasionally be detected by the camera's battery DRM. Beyond that, it was common to get a 3rd party battery that would offer slightly less battery life for a around 20 dollars less, while listing a capacity of 1500mAh, but even in cases like that, they would quickly degrade after a few months of use. With it being nearly impossible to figure out where a company is sourcing their Li-Ion cells from, I ended up just paying the price premium to get the Nikon battery. While I have not had the battery for very long, it is performing as expected compared to previous Nikon batteries that I purchased.
I finally purchased my replacement Nikon DSLR battery from B&H as a trusted online retailer. The battery I received holds it's charge as expected. If you buy online, there are other retailers that sell what appears to be genuine, but is a knockoff.
Just another battery for my D5500. The best part, is that B&H shipped it quick and uneventful. Never an issue with B&H !!
