The RS814 RackStation 4-Bay NAS Server from Synology is a four bay rack mountable NAS server complete with a 1.33 GHz dual-core Marvell Armada XP processor and 1GB of DDR3 RAM to ensure smooth operation under some of the most demanding conditions. Each hot-swappable drive bay is capable of housing both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA II and SATA III hard drives and solid state drives with a maximum storage capacity of 20TB. Along with hot-swappable drive bays, you also benefit from two USB 3.0 and one eSATA ports to connect additional storage devices.
The RS814 comes equipped with Synology's own DiskStation Manager (DSM) which includes a variety of applications to tailor how you manage your server. The DSM software features a 16TB maximum file system size, a 256 maximum internal volume number, along with a variety of RAID configurations including Synology Hybrid RAID, Basic, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10, and much more.
Once configured, this Synology NAS Server is capable of average data write speeds of 135 MB/s and average data read speeds of 211 MB/s when configured in RAID 5. Additionally, you can utilize the dual Gigabit Ethernet ports to take advantage of failover support should one of the network connections fail.
Sharing files is an important aspect of any NAS server, and the RS814 has you covered as it is capable of file sharing across the Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. You can also utilize the Cloud Station app to sync files with computers running Windows, Linux, or Mac, as well as iOS and Android based mobile devices.
Designed with attention to recovery mechanism, the RS814 comes with dual LAN failover support to ensure continual network service in case of LAN failure, while the hot-swappable design facilitates easy hard drive replacement. The hard drive tray lock further secures your hard drives from unauthorized or accidental withdrawal. Running on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the RS814 enjoys high-end enterprise features and add-on packages available in DSM's Package Center.
Cloud Station allows users to sync files among multiple devices, including Windows PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android tablets or phones, keeping everything up-to-date. For users who are on the move, Synology offers the DS file app designed for iPhone, iPad, and Android phones. Anything stored on Synology RS814 can now be accessed remotely using DS file via the Internet.
Web Station with PHP/MySQL support allows a single Synology RS814 to host up to 30 websites and numerous 3rd party web applications, such as Content Management, Customer Relationship Management & e-Commerce system. The built-in mail server turns Synology RS814 into a dedicated mail service provider, while the add-on package, Mail Station, provides a webmail interface for users to access emails stored on Synology RS814.
