Does this bushing go fully into the socket so the exterior remains flush? (Many of these have a lip for some reason)
Usually yes but some cameras have a shallower tripod socket. This Arca-Swiss Adapter Screw 8mm 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing is 8mm in length but the cameras don't really write in the specs how long the tripod socket is, so it is usually trial and error.

is this bushing made of brass?
The brass bushing says so in the description. This one pictured here looks like coated aluminum. The brass bushing is about $27.00. May not be worth the extra money.
