  • 1Description

The Rode VideoMic GO On-Camera Shotgun Microphone and DeadCat VMP Wind Cover Kit from B&H provides everything you need for high-quality indoor or outdoor audio recording using your small camcorder or HDSLR camera.

The VideoMic GO On-Camera Shotgun Microphone from Rode is a lightweight microphone which adds high-quality audio recording to your small camcorder and HDSLR camera. At only 2.6 ounces, the microphone keeps your camera setup lightweight, making it ideal for handheld shooting. It features an integrated Rycote Lyre shock mount for isolation from bumps and vibration, and offers battery-free operation, using instead the plug-in power from your camera's 3.5mm microphone input. Please note that the microphone will not work with cameras that don't supply plug-in power to their 3.5mm audio input jack, such as the Nikon D7000.

The Rode DeadCat VMP Wind Muff is an artificial fur wind cover for the Rode VideoMic Pro that also fits the Rode VideoMic Go. The windshield is designed to minimize any wind noise when recording in high wind conditions while remaining acoustically transparent and accurate.

The VideoMic GO is a directional microphone. It utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern to attenuate sounds from the sides, resulting in a signal that sounds closer to the camera, even when shooting in noisy environments or at moderate distances. The integrated shoe mount provides a 3/8" thread for additional mounting options. A foam windshield and 7.9" dual mono 3.5mm coiled output cable is included.

    Lightweight Design
At only 2.6 ounces, the VideoMic GO is ideal for run-and-gun HDSLR recording without the additional weight of larger on-camera microphone options.
    Integrated Rycote Lyre Shock Mount
Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and won't wear out, sag, snap, or require any rethreading to maintain its effectiveness.
    No Battery Needed
The VideoMic Go does not require batteries for operation, but instead uses the plug-in power supplied via your camera's 3.5mm microphone input. Simply plug in, and you're ready to record.
    Additional Features
    • Reinforced ABS construction
    • Foam windshield
    • Integrated shoe mount with 3/8" thread
    • 3.5mm TRS mini-jack audio output connection

Rode VideoMic GO reviews

VideoMic GO On-Camera Shotgun Microphone and DeadCat VMP Wind Cover Kit is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME So this is my first shotgun mic, I'm using it for everyday films and wedding and event film. The vmp cover is well built and slide right on, only complaint is the fur will pull out if you tug on it, so a little annoying when your hands are sweaty and the hairs are stuck to your hands, but really not a terrible problem. The mic itself is so super lightweight, I'm running it on a canon rebel t3i, with a 50mm f1.8 and the lens if heavier than the mic. The suspension system is a little interesting, when you run and move rapidly it with make crack! sounds, so kinda deafens the purpose of the suspension. But whenever its just on a stabilizer, if your not run-and-gunning then you will be good. the range of the mic is very good and strong. i gave this a 5 out of 5, but the suspension and the shedding cat are kinda of annoying. hope this helps guys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from shorter than videomic pro i originally purchased a rode videomic pro but had to return and exchange it for this, reason being is when i use a panasonic gh2 mounted on a handle with the fisheye lens the micophone would creep in at the top of the shot. this was a couple inches shorter and solved my problem

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works just as its intended to!! Great Microphone, very lightweight and the deadcat that it comes with is very useful! There is no downside to the mic besides that you do notice the strain it puts on the cameras battery but its not that bad. Just make sure you are carrying a couple batteries with you. Would recommend 10/10

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Backup Mic Solution This is a battery free mic (other than camera batteries) and its light weight. Small and easy to use. It is great for a backup mic in interview style scenarios.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sound Interference Issues Clicking and interference issues with internal wifi on multiple cameras. No one wants to have issues and have to trouble shoot. Save yourself the headache and purchase the pro version. I wasted 4-5 hours of video on initial testing, communicating with Canon, Rode and B&H. I wish that time could have been spent in production, not trouble shooting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money! This is a great mic for vlogging, professional videography, etc. I shot some video with it and it picks up great sound from multiple directions and works well in high-wind settings. As a female videographer, I am also a fan of compact, lightweight, and high-quality equipment such as this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for Run//Gun Auto People This is a good microphone for those who use automatic setting for everything. However, I need good michrophones I can control the gain. This michrophone, unfortunately, did not give me that control. Additionally it was not as directional as I would want in a shotgun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rode Mic is great while Dead cat sheds. I like the Rode microphone a lot. It works a whole lot better than my Nikon D5200 camera's on camera microphone. The only issue I have faced has been from the Dead cat. It has a problem of shedding hair everywhere from the time I received the Dead cat.
