I Bought A Watson Battery For My Canon XA-40 A Few Years Ago. Didn't Use It Too Much And Wouldn't Take/hold A Charge. I Made A Negative Review And In A Stunning Effort Of Great Customer Service Watson/B&H Looked At My Review And Provided Me With A Brand New Battery. I Have To Say That Maybe The Old Battery May Have Been Defective As It Used To Show Fully Charged In A Very Short Time, Less Than An Hour And Would Drain Very Quickly When New. THANK YOU B&H And Watson.

I use four of these batteries for my Canon XA45 camera. The charge lasts twice as long as the Canon battery yet costs half as much. Get this battery with the charger.

Canon "Whats in the Box" lists the BP-828 battery is included. I have the smaller HF G60, and the Watson BP-828 gives me a lot more recording time for my non-pro usage. My G60 came with the BP-820 which has a much smaller capacity. So far the Watson battery is about 3 years old, has never failed, nor has shown a decrease in power when fully charged. The battery meter shows about 198 minutes of recording time. My CG-800 wall charger does not fully charge the BP-828. In charging this large battery with the small charger, I found that the charger light goes off, but not to green fully charge status. Solution is to remove the battery, and then insert it again to resume charging until the green light comes on. Get you a charger with more oomph. For your larger XF400, I would go for the Watson. It's priced amazingly low! Get you 2 of them. That is if your recording time is longer than 1.5 hours. Hope this helps someone.

my Canon is a Vixia HF G21 & the Watson battery is a B-1540. I recharge on a standard recharger, and it's been working very well & holding a charge very well. However, I also us Cannon Vixia HFM31 and had to get the Watson B-1510 for that camera. Those batteries are NOT interchangeable.

Yes, I've owned an XA40 and it is compatible with the BP-828 style battery. This battery is much higher capacity than the original BP-820 battery that comes standard with this camcorder.
