The 77mm Genustech Eclipse ND Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of approximately 2 to 8 stops. The 0.6 to 2.4 optical density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Genustech produces dedicated lens hoods to use with their fader filters. For the 77mm Eclipse ND Fader Filter, you can use the 82mm size http://bhpho.to/1wXJmkw.The front lens cap thread size is 82mm.

Most of my Canon Lenses use 77mm filters but I have a 28-135 zoom that I sometimes use for video and it uses 72mm filters. Can I use a step-up ring with the Genustech 77mm ND filter or will there be vignetting? Thanks
Stepping up reduces vignetting, so I always buy filters that are too big and use step-up rings.

Hi Ethan, Apologies for the lateness of this answer. It seems it got missed in reporting. The Eclipse ND Fader range came out a few years ago. We have added to this with a Polariser ND Variable Neutral Density and Polariser filter (a two in one solution). This is made up of 3 filters stacked in one housing, and kept as compact as possible. This is a relatively new product for us, and it was called a Solar Eclipse (following our brand product names) but we changed it to Polariser ND because of questions about using this filter to look directly at the sun. We would not recommend you look at the sun directly, ever. Furthermore, pointing your camera lens at the sun also risks damage to the camera. So, The Eclipse ND and the Polarizer ND filters are different. The Eclipse is a variable ND fader, and the Polarizer ND is a variable ND fader and a polarizer.

Can you tell by feel, like a notch or something when you rotate for densities with is filter...If not which one has that you would recommend w/o breaking the bank to much?... Thanks in advance..
There are no notches or clicks as you rotate the filter. Rotation is smooth. I haven't used the filter in a large number of instances yet, but other reviewers have spoken highly of the lack of color shift. It is a hunk of glass, well built and most likely worth the investment. I chose it as a middle cost point with satisfied users.

Hi, I would like to know if it is compatible with the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF Lens for Sony E-Mount . It says the filter thread is 72, so is my other lens (Soney Zeiss 35mm FE 1.4 Distagon) . But I have heard somewhere that this ND filter fitted these lenses... Can you help please?
