Kenko KFM-2200 Overview

The Kenko KFM-2200 Cine & Flash Meter is a digital handheld exposure meter capable of both incident and reflected light measurement, including flash and strobes. The KFM-2200 utilizes a spherical diffuser with a 270° rotation angle for most readings, including the ability to take a 1° spot measurement using the viewfinder. It can then use one of three measurement modes depending on your specific needs.

For working with both cinema and still photography use, there are a variety of additional settings, especially a large selection of shutter speeds from 30 minutes to 1/16000 second. It even features a flash sync terminal for metering your strobes for still photography. Also, it can display an aperture range from f/1.0 to f/128 and 9/10.

The digital LCD display is backlit to increase readability and shows a variety of parameters, each of which can be set to determine proper exposure values for your camera settings. The KFM-220 also features a viewfinder with diopter adjustment for taking spot measurements of reflected light. It includes a soft case and strap for storage and travel.

Determine the proportion of flash to ambient light in a single measurement

The light meter is very easy to use, readable, simple and clear. Everything works as it should. Photographers still have to work with a light meter - even in the most advanced digital age - you can't see the differences in aperture on the screen of the digital camera or the digital back. If you have differences of 1/3-2/3 aperture, you won't be able to see it on any digital screen of this or that camera, nor in the field. You only see things like this in print. Spot works very good.with flash it works with a cord. Ambient reading is exellent. At night the lcd display lights up (but you can not see the buttons)-you will need a small flashlight to work at outdoor night time. It is still an exellent light meter that gives you all the relevant information for image making.

I have had vey little experience with using light meters. As a result the first set I took it to, I put it in my sport coat pocket even though it has a strap to hang around your neck. So what happened... I had previously checked some ambient light settings outside that day on location, then went inside to shoot and took another set of readings. without storing the first set in memory. I set the camera for the indoor flash sequence and waited for the show to begin. I got too warm and took my sport coat off and hung it in the back of the Chapel. Upon completion of the ceremony I went out to catch the party exiting then proceeded to the lawn for group pics. Yes, leaving the meter in my coat pocket hanging in the Chapel. I remembered the approximate settings previously taken and reset the camera still applying flash to a skyline background setting. The camera histogram showed over exposure because of the skyline background and chimpping the LCD screen was useless outside. I continued shooting with small variations to settings hoping for the best. Surprisingly the indoor flash shots were the best I had ever shot and the outdoor shots only required a small amount of exposure correction in post-prep. I was thoroughly pleased with the outcome and am practicing new technics for hanging it on my person for future use. I have not yet used the average feature but am anxious to try the accuracy of it. The spot, ambient and N Cord are very easy and accurate with wonderful light setting results. A wonderful addition to take the experimental factor out of camera settings when you have to set and shoot... I am sure that there are probably small (maybe one stop variations) from camera to camera or lens to lens performance but the meter will give a range of three or four stops that will all be within the proper parameters of correct settings. As a novice meter user I found it delightfully easy and surprisingly accurate. I will be using it more often. This devise seems rugged, and durable yet the controls respond well and buttons are protected by a recessed design.

What size PC Sync connector will work with the ...

What size PC Sync connector will work with the Kenko KFM-2200? The standard PC connectors are too large.

This meter takes a standard pc connection. If the one you have is too large, then you can compress the end a bit with pliers to make it fit.

Have you any silicone skin protection or similar products that would suitably fit and protect this gem of a device?

There is not a skin made that works with the Kenko KFM-2200 Cine & Flash Meter. There are cases you can use. And it does come with one.

I just purchased this meter. So far so good, but it didn't come with the flat disk which I find so handy to evaluate contrast ratios. Its an accessory! And not available on B&H webstore. How can I order one? Thank you in advance for your answers.

A spotmeter (reflected) workflow question based on speed and ease-of-use: does pushing the S/A/H button immediately give you a calculated reading, S or A or H, depending on what you had last requested (S or A or H) before taking new readings, without needing to use the Up/Down Dial? And so the Up/Down Dial is ONLY necessary when changing from A to S or A to H or S to H, etc.(?) So if you always want, let’s say, Shadow calculations, the function can be left at S and pushing the S/A/H button will always IMMEDIATELY give one the Shadow calculation without ever touching the Up/Down Dial.(?) Thanks.

I contacted the manufacturer concerning your inquiry. According to Kenko, yes, the workflow you describe above would work with the Kenko KFM-2200 Cine & Flash Meter.
