Manfrotto MK190XPRO4 Tripod with Pan/Tilt Hea... Overview

The Manfrotto MK190XPRO4-3W Aluminum Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head combines the MT190XPRO4 tripod legs with the MHXPRO-3W 3-way pan/tilt head. The tripod has a load capacity of 26.5 lb, extends up to 68.1", and folds down to 24.4" for transport.

The Quick Power Lock System allows you to completely extend the tripod legs with one hand. Once set up, you can use the tripod's rapid center column in standard vertical mode or swing it into horizontal position like a boom with Manfrotto's 90° column feature to get your camera down to only 3.1" above the ground. You can attach an extending arm or bracket to hold lights or reflectors via the Easy Link plug built into the tripod's spider.

The MHXPRO-3W atop of the tripod is a compact pan/tilt head with retractable handles that can be extended as needed. Two knobs control the friction for the front-to-back and side-to-side tilt, allowing you to fine tune the movements based on the weight of your gear. Three leveling bubbles ensure your composition is level on all axes. A 200PL quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera mounting screw is included.

Manfrotto MK190XPRO4 Tripod with Pan/Tilt Hea... Reviews

The Tripod I've Always Wanted

I purchased the MK190XPRO4 for three reasons: 1) sturdy camera mount; 2) center shaft that can be adjusted to horizontal position; and, 3) 3-way, pan/tilt head with quick release plate. Let's begin with the tripod legs. It is very sturdy even when its legs are fully extended and at extreme leg angles, which is exactly what I'm looking for. It's heavier than I anticipated but I don't mind because it makes for a sturdy mount for my camera and gear. I did find the locking buttons for adjusting leg angle difficult to pull down until I found the trick -- closing the leg toward the center. The ability to adjust the center column to the horizontal position was the primary reason I purchased the MK190PRO. Manfrotto made it extremely easy to move the center column from vertical to horizontal. It is perfect for shooting products from overhead. The pan/tilt head is wonderfuI, I wasn't expecting such a high quality tripod head! Based on the cost of other tripod heads I've seen, this one is a great value. And it works well with my heavy camera. If you cannot afford a $600+ tripod but need one that can handle most in-studio and nature / landscape photography, the MK190PRO is for you.

Problem after a year and a half

I use this tripod daily for real estate and I love its sturdiness and ease of adjustability. The knobs for the tilt and level are great. I can adjust them with great speed and accuracy, and the bubble levels are perfectly placed.  My only complaint is the pan adjustment. In the beginning it was fine. I could adjust the tension and control pans fairly well. IT would also lock up nicely without too much pressure. However, after about a year, the pans gradually became a bit jumpy, as though the added friction was not evenly distributed around the vertical post. A couple months ago, tightening the pan control knob made for a very rough panning experience. This turned into a grinding noise, and finally the tension ring seized up completely preventing any kind of pan. I took the head apart and found metal fragments and deep gouges in both the ring and vertical post. Im waiting for a callback from Manfrotto.

question

Can this tripod be folded up and fit into the carrier bag without removing the handles?
Asked by: MITCHELL
It comes with a standard Manfrotto tripod bag, and it fits in the bag fully assembled. If it doesnt have this accessory, I suggest you might be looking at a 3rd party tripod, or vendor built bundle.Hope this helps.
