Gitzo GT2542 overview

  • 1Description

The GT2542 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo features Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT2542 has a load capacity of 39.7 lb, extends to a maximum height of 65.7", and folds down to 22" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 5.9". Its four-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity, and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

    Gitzo GT2542 reviews

GT2542 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect travel tripod. I have been using a Gitzo GT3542 with a Arca Swiss ballhead for a while. I used it to hold my Phase One camera with 80mp Leaf back, 80mm lens. Great tripod but very large for travel. So I just bought this GT2542 XLS tripod and it perfectly fits diagonally into my carry on suitcase. I still use the same ballhead. I did my first tests in heavy winds in Trieste and it worked perfectly. Very light but sturdy. Yes, I can not get the height that I am used too from the other tripod. But often I didn't take my medium format camera with me because I couldn't fit the large tripod into my suitcase and I didn't want to pack a larger case. So now there is no excuse anymore. It is a great mix of size, weight, height, and sturdiness. It won't replace my larger Gitzo for local work but it is great to know that this tripod can handle most of my travel needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight and solid support. I needed a lightweight weight tripod. I use this tripod with a gimbal head and a 200-400mm lens. It gives a solid support even with the weight of the gimbal head, lens, and camera body. I'm sure I'll get years of use from this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful! I'm sure I have chosen well! I was looking for a tripod to accompany me on trips and researched a lot on the internet. I wanted a professional because I have heavy equipment. After testing several in B&H store, I conclude that this would be the best, although not as compact and light as the trip class. I also bought the Gitzo - GC3101 Padded Tripod Bag to carry it. Tripod very firm and wind resistant. Another important point is that I 1,92m tall and this tripod is perfect for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade I upgraded to the Gitzo from a well used and abused Manfrotto, well worth the extra cost. Fine precision workmanship the Gitzo is smooth and quick to set up

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great tripod This is a very handsome tripod, living up completely to reviews by other users. It is extremely sturdy and yet light enough to still be easily carried long distances. This is now my fourth iteration on a tripod and it is light-years better in overall quality and versatility. It is nice to finally have one that will actually rest completely on the ground, when such is needed for macrophotography, as well as one with a hook on the central pole if and when additional weight needs to be used for stabilization in heavy winds. A really outstanding tripod, well worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality Very Sturdy, excellent quality, absolutely love it. The only draw back is at this high price it did not come with a quality carrying case but rather a so called bag which is basically a piece of black rag. Very disappointing!
